A Hotel Gem In Cancun

A Hotel Gem In Cancun

By Lisa Loverro

If you've never thought about visiting Cancun, think again. This very popular tourist destination has come a long way from its days of "spring break" paradise. In fact, Cancun has grown into a very sophisticated resort spot for every type of holiday from the perfect honeymoon to a family reunion and friend's getaway. It's close enough for a quick weekend trip and provides that much needed burst of sunshine during a particularly cold winter we all just experienced here in New York City.

During my recent trip, I was fortunate enough to have experienced the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach Resort, located about a half-hour drive from Cancun Airport. The resort itself couldn't not be more ideally located; well within walking distance to all the restaurants and bars you've have come to associate with Cancun. The most convenient, however, is its location to the ferry service to Isla Mujeres, a small island where you'll find local shops and pristine beaches, for an ideal day trip.

The Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach was one of the most stylish of all the large hotels I have experienced in Cancun. There are over 600 rooms here, all offering balconies with beautiful ocean views. The rooms are large and airy with floor-to-ceiling windows, soothing neutral tones and flat screen TVs. The real "wow" factor at this hotel is their 40,000 square foot Gem Spa, the largest in all of Latin America. Its combination of sophisticated relaxation and unique treatments are further enhanced with their Ten-Step Hydrotherapy Ritual. This hydrotherapy "journey" utilizes the healing qualities of water throughout your entire guided circuit experience. From an aromatherapy steam room and clay steam room to an ice room and sensation pool, this treatment is offered complimentary with a spa treatment booking, and well worth they extra time you'll spend at the Spa. The two-level spa features 26 treatment rooms including 10 multi-functional rooms, six massage and facial rooms, and five couples' treatment rooms.

The Gem Spa is reason enough to book a room at this hotel but if you need more convincing, consider their multiple pools that run the length of the resort, the three swim-up bars and variety of dining options. There is a fine dining French restaurant and a fantastic upscale Mexican restaurant offering tequila tasting and a lively Mariachi band.
