The New Club on the Block

The New Club on the Block

By Hillary Latos

While every country does their version of carnivorous gastronomy- the Brazilians have their Churrascaria, the Argentinians have their chimichurri grill and NYC has the classic American steakhouse that's as iconic to the city as the Empire State Building or Rockefeller Center. When it comes to a generously portioned and perfectly grilled steak, humans are not so far removed from animals. We all possess the Pavlovian instincts inducing our mouths to salivate as we eagerly await that first bite. Proving the popularity of an all American steakhouse, the newest kid on the block has opened in midtown with Angus Club Steakhouse that's as much of a power scene as it is a carnivore's heaven.

While steakhouses tend to offer similar menus, what differentiates the steaks at Angus is their 35 day aging process giving their selections an unparalleled flavor. To ensure only the best selection of USDA prime angus steaks, Executive Chef Edward Avdyli hand selects each cut daily and dry ages them onsite with a Himalayan salt room. The appetizers range from fresh raw bar selections to scrumptious crab cakes, fried calamari, and yellow fin tuna tartar. Delve into their signature salad topped with shrimp, bacon, and roasted peppers tossed in their house vinaigrette. Beat the early spring chill with their rich lobster bisque, cheesy French onion soup or hearty beef barley soup made with filet mignon. Choose from your favorite cuts that are seared to perfection such as a Porterhouse for two or more, juicy bone in Filet Mignon, double cut veal chop, rib eye, or Colorado lamb chops. If you're in the mood for seafood there are also plenty of other tasty options. Try the blackened sushi grade yellow fin tuna, lobster tails, Mediterranean style grilled Chilean sea bass dressed with capers and lemon or grilled salmon. Complement your steak with one of their tasty sides such as truffled mac 'n cheese, creamed spinach, fried or caramelized onion rings, or steak fries with truffle oil. Choose a bold vintage from their extensive wine selection or visit the glass walled wine cellar adjacent to the dining room.

Housed in a bi level upscale prewar townhouse setting, the reclaimed wood lined walls provide a warm ambiance against the soft lighting from the contemporary chandeliers which is perfect for a business power meeting or a romantic tete a tete. For quieter gatherings there are plenty of private rooms each reflecting a different décor. The Chef's Room features bold brocade lined walls as a perfect gathering for up to eight guests. The golden hued Cork Room embodies the golden age of the art deco era, while the Leather Room can accommodate 25 for dinner with a rich luxe feel with oxblood leather adorning the wall as a perfect backdrop for a power dinner. The Oak Room has a light and natural feel with geometrically placed unfinished wood that brings nature inside. For larger parties dine upstairs in the Gotham styled room with oversized windows overlooking Midtown outside and landscape photos of NYC's skyline.

Whether coming in for a celebration, happy hour, or are looking to satisfy those steak cravings, an unforgettable and scrumptious evening awaits at Angus Club Steakhouse.
