Since its opening, Avra is the latest UES scene-y hotspot that is filled with a medley of moguls, bankers, socialites, A listers and the like who are known for being spotted at the right place at the right time. Designed as a chic villa in Greece, this sprawling bi level space on 60th between Fifth and Madison is the latest venture of the Tao Group who possess the Midas touch when it comes to the hospitality game. Walking through the doors at Avra, customers will be transported from the hustle and bustle of New York City to a serene villa in Greece. David Rockwell has recreated the carefree spirit of the Greek Isles with stone washed walls, limestone, and lemon trees that welcome you into a beautiful flowered courtyard.

 

From the open kitchen, patrons can witness chefs at work preparing traditional Mediterranean dishes such as Barbounia, Lithrini, and Fagri. With an emphasis on seafood, Avra ensures that customers will be served the freshest ingredients. Available nightly from 5pm to 6:30pm, the restaurant has a dinner prix theatre menu which guests can enjoy a three course meal at the price of $43.95. Guests can look forward to Mediterranean specialties such as royal dorado, a whole fish served with asparagus, or a lobster ravioli topped with fresh herbs.

 

As compared to the pre theatre menu, the dinner menu has a wider range of variety for guests go enjoy. Catering to vegetarians, the restaurant has a selection of vegetarian appetizers that guests can choose form including spanakopita, a baked film stuffed with spinach, feta and leeks or kolokithi, a traditional crispy zucchini and eggplant chips. Hoping to enjoy freshly baked pita bread, guests can pair the delicacy with three different spreads of their choice. For main courses, guests can take a go at a variety of seafood including black sea bass, barbounia, lobster and king prawns. Hoping to try something out of the ordinary? Guests can try Tonos, grilled tuna paired with sautéed swiss chard and slice marinated beets or a seafood platter with shrimp, scallops, clams and mussels doused in tomato, herbs and cheese.

Offering their twist on traditional American breakfasts, Avra’s greek toast is made with tsoureki and vanilla honey or their omelets made with fresh cut peppers, tomatoes, leeks and kefalograviera cheese.
