If you're visiting St Andrews, you'll most likely be flying into Edinburgh—and if you're flying into Edinburgh, you should absolutely spend at least one night there. Steeped in history and culture, Edinburgh has been the capital of Scotland since the early 15th century, and it's a hotbed of entertainment, nightlife, education, and arts, as well as the home of Scotland's Parliament and monarchy.

There's so much to see and do in this vibrant, storybook city, but if you've got limited time, you can stick to the Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), with Edinburgh Castle (the city's most popular attraction) holding court high on the Royal Mile, towering over the city and bewitching visitors with its imposing, medieval beauty. Stroll down the Royal Mile and make your way toward Holyrood Palace, stopping along the way at the church of St Giles, the many souvenir shops and vendors, and the Real Mary King's Close, the underground home to the city's deepest secrets. You can book a daytime walking tour of the city, a nighttime ghost tour, or simply meander and discover the mysteries and treasures of one of the brightest jewels in the UK crown.

The best area to stay in order to be close to these sites is on the Royal Mile, and you won't find a better location that of Old Town Chambers. Within a charming courtyard just off the Royal Mile—and a two-minute walk to Edinburgh Castle—these five-star serviced apartments are each completely distinct, and are truly some of the most unique and welcoming accommodations I've ever experienced.
The buildings that make up Old Town Chambers straddle three medieval closes (lanes) and include a collection of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, three penthouses, and a 15th century townhouse. Many of the apartments have exposed stone dating back to the 15th century, and all blend modern design seamlessly with the historic surroundings, featuring character details such as gabled ceilings and old sash and case windows.

While each apartment at Old Town Chambers is one-of-a-kind, they all include modern amenities and conveniences, from drench showers and smart TVs to fully-stocked, top-of-the-line kitchens, Bose sound systems, and Nespresso coffee makers. They also all come with the full service you find in a five-star hotel, but with all of the space and convenience of apartment living.

In addition to the ancient exposed brickwork within many of the rooms, you'll find delightful design details and furnishings, original period wall paintings, and countless little touches that make it feel like home. It's no surprise that Old Town Chambers is consistently ranked as one of the top places to stay in Edinburgh and continues to receive rave reviews. Staying here not only places you in the very heart of this beautiful city, but it makes you feel as if you are a part of it.
My only regret during my stay was that it was so short—I look forward to returning to this magical city and once again calling Old Town Chambers home.
