“I am not a bit vain,” said the Story Girl, “It is not vanity to know your own good points. It would just be stupidity if you didn’t. It’s only vanity when you get puffed up about them. “ Excerpt from The Story Girl written by Lucy Maud Montgomery in 1911.
At 12 years old, I agreed with Felicity. I was taught not to be vain; now I’m hooked on the Story Girl’s philosophy. To recognize and maintain my youthful ‘good points’, I chose to enlist the expertise of cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Kenneth Mark who has just opened a state of the art office in Southampton. Step 1 is Recognition; Step 2 is reviving and maintaining the skin. Your choice of a dermatologist will determine your results. When you enter the world of anti-aging procedures, you want to be in the safe hands of a Board Certified cosmetic dermatologist.
Dr. Mark fits the bill. He spent an additional two years of training after his dermatology residency to become an expert in plastic reconstructive surgery, cosmetic procedures and Mohs surgery. This is an advanced minimally invasive treatment for skin cancer that minimizes scarring and has the highest cure rate. He is also a Fellow of The American College of Mohs Surgery.
His experience, artistry and precision with this technique allows him to effectively treat skin cancer, which one in every five Americans will get during their lifetime, with very little cosmetic damage. Dr. Mark’s skill and attention to detail in treating skin cancer translates seamlessly to a plethora of cosmetic procedures including Botox, fillers, and laser surgery, making him a sought-after authority on all aspects of cosmetic dermatology.
The infinite list of anti-aging procedures is filtered by Dr. Mark’s discerning judgment and years of research. No homework for me! He chooses only proven technologies for his patients. This is not the doctor that stockpiles a closet full of fashionable gadgets.
Located in East Hampton and Southampton, Dr. Mark also has offices in Manhattan and Aspen. Geographically, my favorite social events circle his offices. How convenient! His Southampton office with its elegant new interior is my go-to location for all my skin care needs. Dr. Mark is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at NYU, where he supervises the advanced facial surgery clinic, allowing him to give back to the world-renowned program that trained him, while also giving back to our nation’s veterans, as he teaches at the Manhattan Veterans’ Affairs Hospital.
So what treatment did he prescribe for me? A little Botox, some filler and the new and only FDA-approved non-surgical treatment that lifts the skin, Ultherapy. My jawline needed a comeback. Three months after my Ultherapy procedure, I look at my reflection, tilt my strong jawline and think, my ‘good points’ are kind of terrific. Thanks Dr. Mark. I’ll try not to get puffed up about them. •
