US-exclusive presentation of a selection of ten works from the ‘Eternal’ collection:
sculptures and crystal panels created by Damien Hirst and crafted by Lalique’s master glassmakers.

Ten works from the ‘Eternal’ collection are now on display for the first time in the US, at Lalique’s Miami boutique. The collection is the result of a collaboration between Lalique Art and British artist, Damien Hirst.

The ‘Eternal’ collaboration began in 2015 with the creation of a collection of glass crystal panels. The 2017 collection has expanded upon this with the addition of a further 12 pieces, which were first shown in Paris this October. The limited edition crystal pieces feature a selection of the artist’s most recognisable motifs, including: the cross, dove, skull and butterfly.

The presentation of these exceptional pieces is the culmination of four years of research and conversations between Hirst and Lalique, combining the creative expertise of both artist and craftsmen. On the collaboration, Hirst has stated: “It’s amazing being able to use all the expert craftsmanship […] of Lalique for something new, and the results are beyond all my expectations”.

Crystal sculptures

Five of the seven sculptures from the ‘Eternal’ collection will be exhibited in the Miami boutique, these are: Eternal Sleep, Eternal Cross, Eternal Immaculate, Eternal Belief and Eternal Sinner. The sculptures in the series were created using the lost wax technique, a skillful process dating back five millennia. After the initial lost wax casting is complete, the surface of each work is finished by hand, resulting in an incomparable level of detail. The artworks are available in limited editions of between twenty and thirty-five, numbered and accompanied by a certificate signed by the artist.

Crystal panels

The five crystal panels from the ‘Eternal’ collection will be exhibited in the Miami boutique. To create each panel, a mold of the central image is hot-pressed into the center of the Lalique crystal glass panel, ensuring the pieces capture the light, replicating the effect of stained-glass windows. They are available in a selection of different colors. Art editions produced by Lalique Art in fifty copies will be available to collectors. Each piece is numbered and accompanied by a certificate signed by the artist.

US exhibition dates

Following the presentation at Lalique Bal Harbour boutique during Art Basel, the works will be showcased at the following Lalique boutiques:

• Beverly Hills: January 29 – March 5, 2018

• Beverly Hills: January 29 – March 5, 2018

Damien Hirst

Damien Hirst was born in Bristol (GB) in 1965. The artist first came to public attention in 1988 with the exhibition ‘Freeze’, before winning the Turner Prize in 1995. Since then, Hirst has employed a wide range of mediums – installation, sculpture, painting and drawing – to explore the complex relationships between religion, science, art, life and death. Since 1987, Hirst has had more than 90 international solo exhibitions devoted to his work. He is widely represented in numerous major public and private collections. In April 2017, he presented his most complex project to date, ‘Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable’, across two museum spaces in Venice.

Lalique Art

Since 2011, Lalique Art has placed the expertise of Lalique at the service of major contemporary artists, cultural foundations and outstanding designers to create unique and exceptional works of art in crystal. Such works make use of the interplay between light, transparency, color and contours which are unique to the medium of crystal.

This collaboration with Lalique Art offers new sources of inspiration to artists and designers who wish to engage with a rarely explored and singular medium, drawing on the creative expertise of Lalique’s master glassmakers.
