While Times Square has no shortage of hotels for visitors to choose from, among them stands The Chatwal, a delightfully appealing upscale boutique hotel in the heart of The Theater District. Recently voted one of the top 10 hotels in New York by Travel + Leisure, The Chatwal is owned by the famed Dream Hotel Group and caters to businessmen and tourists alike. Built in 1905 by Stanford White and renovated in 2016 by master architect, Thierry Despont, The Chatwal’s room count follows those of piano keys, with 76 artfully curated rooms and suites. Of these, 29 are themed, specialty suites, 47 deluxe rooms, and 4 with spacious terraces. The lobby bar is reminiscent of a speakeasy, which has an intimate feel. The upstairs, which holds a larger area, is more casual and holds wonderful hanging lights in the shape of the Empire State Building.

The Chatwal Lobby

As one enters the graciously opened double doors of the Chatwal, it’s hard to miss the inner sanctum’s carefully designed interior, boasting with art-deco touches, the theme that is delicately articulated throughout the hotel. Walls and furniture are adorned with shades of red and brown, accompanied by the fresh scent of Diptyque’s French Baies and a hospitable staff. Each guestroom features built-in cabinets meant to look like large classic luggage, wrapped in faux leather with matching leather handles. The walls, upholstered in ultra-suede, are unique to The Chatwal as well. Each guestroom houses a luxury handmade mattress by Shifman Mattresses and complemented by luxuriously soft Frette duvets and pillows. The bathroom, no less eye-catching and luxurious than the rest of the property, is complete with a modern raindrop shower, jetted bathtub, and TOTO toilet with heated seat, massage, and bidet functionality and finished with a 19-inch integrated mirror television.

While the guestrooms may be difficult to leave, guests have plenty more inside the hotel to explore. Pamper yourself at the Red Door Spa by Elizabeth Arden, which includes three treatment rooms, private changing suites with steam showers, relaxation lounge, infinity saltwater lap pool, Jacuzzi plunge pool, 24-hour fitness center, and a manicure and pedicure studio. Indulge your appetite at The Lambs Club, the 80-seat restaurant located in The Chatwal’s lobby, where celebrated Chef, Geoffrey Zakarian is the creative force behind the modern American restaurant.
