Monique Péan, a premier sustainable fine jewelry designer who raises awareness of art, culture and global environmental issues through her designs and Amikaeyla Gaston, award-winning singer, activist and executive director/founder of the International Cultural Arts & Healing Sciences Institute (ICAHSI) were honored yesterday at Voss Foundation’s Seventh Annual Women Helping Women New York Luncheon at the Stephan Weiss Studio.

The benefit raised over $ 135,000 to fund Voss Foundation’s ongoing water projects in sub-Saharan Africa. Over 200 guests dined on PTL Catering’s salmon and spaghetti squash amongst colorful wildflowers and rustic floral décor, as the afternoon’s Mistress of Ceremonies-writer, producer, author – Susan Fales-Hill, engaged the crowd with a rousing call to action to purchase items from Voss’ celebrated African Bazaar and the tableside Fund A Need cards to support the foundation’s on going water projects. The bazaar includes artisanal handmade jewelry, scarves, baskets, and toys purchased directly from communities in Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Liberia, Swaziland, and Uganda where the organization works.

Yesterday’s honorees, while sharing different backgrounds, were united in the message in their acceptance speeches urging the guests to live a purposeful life while taking time to help others. Afterwards they were each presented with a hand-made beaded walking-stick from Samburu, Kenya used by Nomadic Pastoralist.
