La Promenade des Anglais, in the heart of Chelsea and in the iconic London Terrace Gardens, is a sleek and delicious new restaurant from acclaimed chef and owner Alain Allegretti. Known for his savory Provençal and Niçoise creations, Mr. Allrgretti has branched off to the wider Mediterranean, encompassing Italy (he is, to be clear, of Italian heritage and upbringing) and Spain.
From the instant a good friend and I walked through the doors, we knew we were in for a treat. With a clean and modernist interior, La Promenade des Anglais sits at the vanguard of restaurants in the city; and we were so pleased to be able to experience its exciting combination of hip atmosphere, delectable food and professional service.

The menu is organized in such a manner as to encourage sharing; and that’s just what we did. Gorging ourselves on the multitude of well-prepared options was easy and dishes were presented that we showered with praise and admiration. We loved the whipped ricotta with thyme and honey and served with grilled country bread or the zucchini flower beignet which were fried to perfection. However, two standouts emerged – the prosciutto and clam croquettes and the roasted baby artichokes. The croquettes were truly exceptional – served with Espelette chili oil – a variety of chili pepper that is found in the Basque region of France and gave nice depth to the dish. And those baby artichokes were simultaneously tender and crispy. We loved the woodsy element and devoured the plate.
We then moved onto a sweetbread and scallop dish that made me swoon for all creations by Allegretti. He paired these two beautifully prepared meats with roasted asparagus, bone marrow, Niçoise olives, tomato and veal jus. It was simply spectacular. The meatiness of both the scallop and the sweetbread melded and complimented each other exceedingly well and we loved the succulent marrow with the salty olives and refreshing tomatoes.

The restaurant also has some spectacular main courses and pastas that are noteworthy and should be tried. Yet, mention should also be made of their outstanding cocktail list. My guest and I thoroughly enjoyed their lavender lemonade with lavender infused vodka, lavender honey and fresh lemon. It was light, airy and a true winner.
Whichever dish or drink that you try, I am try you will be pleased with it. It is clear Mr. Allegretti has hit a homerun with this new venture. All the bells and whistles are here for you to enjoy your meal. From hip interior, friendly staff and thoughtfully prepared food; I know that you won’t go wrong by trying it out.
