Over winter break I went to see the Grand Canyon in Arizona. At first, before I went, I refused to go because I thought it wouldn’t be any fun. But, when I got there I was astonished by the beauty and when I looked down into the canyon, I felt like I could see to the bottom of the earth. It felt as if I was going to freeze to death because the weather was bitterly cold and there was ice on the ground. It was so cold that icicles were dripping from the rocks. However, the instant I looked into the canyon, I no longer cared about the temperature.
When we were there we had to drive a lot to get to certain points. We went to eight different points. The seventh was the best because we could walk around and see many different things. There were huge red rocks surrounding the rim of the canyon. In the center I saw a glance of river running through the opening. Looking down I could feel the water flowing through me. I wished for at least once I could go down and swim with the water floating like a leaf.
There were so many tourists. If I counted there would be over one thousand. But I didn’t even mind when I just looked down. I was lost in my own mind seeing pictures. Yet, I stopped daydreaming when I noticed I could fall down and it could take a long time until I finally got down to the bottom. Another reason is because I wanted to look at it and it would be a once in a lifetime chance.
At the third point, my father, mother and I went to the edge of the canyon in the area with no gate. I felt like I was going to fall and die. Because there was no gate and we were standing only two feet away from the edge; and I would recommend this only if you are not afraid of heights.
I love the Grand Canyon! If I ever got the chance to go again, I would be the first in the car. I loved it for so many reasons. It was not only beautiful, but I learned a lot and I got the opportunity to experience something new. I had the feeling of being scared and excited at the same time. I wish we could have a field trip there because we would learn a lot and do something very fun with our friends and teachers. Fun fact, the Grand Canyon is one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
