The Refined Milestone

By Alexandra Kastleman

The Milestone Hotel, built in 1689, was named after the old cast iron milestone that still rests besides the hotel today. The intimate Victorian hotel, located in the royal borough of Kensington in London, was renovated in 1999 after going down in flames. As a bastion of antique sophistication, it has been recognized as a five-star hotel since the restorations were completed. These updatesstay true to the meticulous English heritage.

The experience starts outside with prestigious views of the Kensington Palace and Kensington Gardens. Inside the hotel, all rooms are individually dressed in restored period furniture from the upholstered chairs to the velvety curtains. Each of the forty-four rooms is differently themed from one another with original fireplaces, high ceilings and large lavish windows to bestow British warmth and hospitality.

As traditional as the Milestone Hotel is, each room accommodates the modern traveler with high speed Internet and interactive TV with movies on demand for the rainy nights. A fun fact for those in the know, are the preloaded iPods the hotel fills with walking tours, music and the Milestone’s podcast for guests at their convenience. Attention to detail and personal service is perfected and delivered to cater to all of your needs. With 24-hour butler service, your every request will be delivered with charm.

Known for its location near the Royal Albert Park and Hyde Park, Milestone Hotel’s provides dining, shopping, and sightseeing convenient to your location. If you choose to opt out for lunch in the Kensington Gardens or Hyde Park, a picnic basket may be prepared for a dining experience on the lawn. Private car service in the hotel’s Bentley is even made available to take you around the neighborhood if your destination is not within walking distance.

Inside the hotel, the Cheneston’s Restaurant presents a modern European dining menu alongside an extensive wine list. Again, service is impeccable as it was noted for its award winning hospitality. Continuing off the main dining room and into the alcove is the drawing room—perfect for a cup of English tea. On rainy days, the drawing room is a reading and relaxing oasis intended to engulf guests in the English culture. The Milestone Hotel features a gym, spa, and indoor pool as well.

Today, the Milestone Hotel radiates elegance while maintaining a high level of hospitality and refinement that are synonymous to London’s heritage. The Milestone Hotel is arguably one of the best hotels in London as it has ranked against top hotels throughout the world.
