Priest Gets the Slammer

Priest Gets the Slammer

A judge today sentenced Monsignor John Woolsey, who pled guilty to bilking his parish for more than $800,000, to one to four years in prison. An investigation into Woolsey’s money dealings began in 2003 when one of his elderly parishioners at the Upper East Side church, Saint John the Martyr, gave the priest nearly half a million dollars. Woolsey used church dollars to enjoy a ritzy lifestyle of country clubs and fancy clothes.—Mike McPhate
