JAM THE AWAY DAY WITH HEINEKEN
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Foo Fighters, LL Cool J and Yerba Buena are among acts confirmed for AmsterJam 2006, to be held Aug. 19 at New York's Randall's Island. Presented by Heineken, this event will include some of the biggest names in rock spread across two stages over an eight-hour period. On Aug. 13-17, Javits Center will host the New York International Gift Fair—the premier gift and decorative accessories trade show in the United States. This semi-annual event fills the entire Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and the Passenger Ship Terminal. YOGA IN BRYANT PARK
Stressed after work? Kristina Marchitto, founder of The Yoga Project in New York City and author of Yoga for Lovers, is hosting a free yoga class in Bryant Park Thursday, Aug. 17 from 6-7 p.m. People from all levels of experience are welcome and mats are provided. Wear comfortable clothes and come ready to relax by stretching, breathing and moving. The Yoga Project is on a mission to show that Yoga can be done anywhere by anyone, and they’re definitely proving it here. For newcomers, if you decide you like yoga, benefits could include weight loss, deeper sleep and chronic pain relief. MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN
This is your chance to see Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline perform live theater. And it’s free! Mother Courage and Her Children is the play, a world premier Bertolt Brecht production, running from Aug. 8 - Sept. 3 at Central Park’s Delacorte Theater. When you wake from your star-struck by Meryl Streep daze, you’ll notice the story follows a mother for 12 years as her children are taken away by a ravaging war and she is left to struggle for survival. Tickets can be picked up the day of the performance beginning at 1 p.m. at the Delacorte Theater or from 1-3 p.m. at the Public Theater Box Office at 425 Lafayette St. Be warned that tickets are limited and lines can start to form early in the morning some days. Performances begin at 8:00 p.m. and there are no shows Aug. 14, 22, 23, or 28.

LEUKEMIA SOCIETY TIES
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Society Ties volunteer group will be having a general meeting at their Chelsea headquarters (475 Park Ave. S., 8th floor between 31st & 32nd streets) on Monday, Aug. 14. This meeting, which is open to new members, is a gathering point of urban professionals who plan monthly networking events such as Casino Nights. These events raise funds for the long-term care and quality of life for sufferers of blood-related cancers.
