Nestled within the canyons of Utah’s stunning red rocks, Red Mountain Resort is a tranquil escape set within the beauty of Mother Nature. Think of Red Mountain Resort as a destination spa meets high-end resort where you can challenge your inner athlete or just reflect on life. Located just outside St. George, Utah, the resort sits on 50 acres of rugged yet beautifully landscaped terrain where hammocks call your name while strolling through the property. Although the resort is great for the active person, it’s also a perfect vacation for solitude and renewal. The retreat packages include 3 healthy meals daily (wine is available for purchase), guided hiking and biking, yoga and fitness classes. Your day will begin with guided hikes that cater to 3 different fitness levels.
The scenery during these hikes will differ each day; one day you’ll be scaling the majestic red rocks in nearby Snow Canyon, the next you’ll have an opportunity to rock scramble your way to ancient petroglyphs. For an additional charge you can book an excursion to Zion National Park, about 45 minutes from the resort, where you’ll spend a full day hiking and exploring one of the most majestic parks in the country. Fitness classes abound here from Pilates and yoga to strength training and cardio workouts. There are two outdoor pools, one for exclusive use of guests staying in the resort’s villas.
The cuisine was healthy and delicious, surprisingly, the seafood dishes offered at dinner were among my favorite. To nourish the soul, there are Shaman Spirit Healing, Guided Imagery and Chakra Balancing sessions. In the evening hours the resort offers various activities including stargazing and sunset walks. There is an onsite spa offering just about any type of massage or body treatment you might desire. Highly recommended is the Red Mountain Revitalizer treatment (opt for an evening appointment), a 75-minute sugar scrub/massage combo that will have you slithering off the table and right into your comfy bed.
Red Mountain Resort is easily accessible via a connecting flight into St. George, Utah or a direct flight into Las Vegas, requiring a 2-hour transfer. If you choose to arrive in Vegas, forgo the shuttle service and book a private transfer with “Owls” transportation (www.owls4u.com, 435-319-9929). You’ll be picked up in a luxury sedan and whisked off in style to begin your magical journey among the red rocks.
