A landmark boutique hotel with just 61 well-appointed rooms, the Betsy sits along a relatively quiet stretch of Ocean Drive between 14th and 15th streets across the street from the beach. Upon arrival, the Betsy’s lobby is an intimate and welcoming area with wingback chairs and comfortable sofas. There’s a bar area with a grand piano situated next to the lobby which provides a nice spot to sit and have a quick cocktail before heading out for the evening.
The hotel is laid back, although most definitely sophisticated and upscale, evident by the 4-star rating it has received this year from both Forbes and AAA. There is a rotating fine art exhibition throughout the lobby and public areas as well as iconic photos of British rock bands, adding to the hotel’s hip factor.
The accommodations range from Classic Rooms to Royal Suites, all private with marbled bathrooms that include large mirrors with embedded flat screen TVs. The walnut floors and Plantation-style shuttered windows inspire a very Floridian feel and the 4-poster beds ensure guests a comfortable night’s sleep. The Malin+Goetz in-room luxury amenities offer a nice touch for a spa-like feel while bathing.
The hotel’s Ocean Deck serves many purposes and is perfect for a relaxing retreat from the beach, offering unobstructed ocean views. Miami’s only outdoor spa, The Wellness Garden & Spa is located on the Ocean Deck as well, shaded by retractable sails and private cabanas. Rooftop Morning yoga (7:30am), exclusively for hotel guests are a great way to begin the day in South Beach and with ocean views, you couldn’t ask for a better outdoor yoga practice. Finally, the completely secluded Courtyard Pool is the perfect way to escape the crowds on the beach.
If you’re a steak lover, you need not leave the hotel for one of the best steakhouses in South Beach. BLT Steak, from the celebrated chef, Laurent Tourondel, never disappoints with its Prime, Wagyu and Certified Black Angus beef. The vibe is always lively here, although still maintaining a very relaxed atmosphere.
