The latest installment of the smash-hit touring magic spectacular, The Illusionists Magic of the Holidays, has found its way to the bright lights of Broadway. Playing at the Marquis Theatre (210 West 46th Street) through December 30th, the show brings together everything from illusions, close-up magic, mentalism, daring escapes, and technological spectacle.
Producers Simon Painter, Tim Lawson, MagicSpace Entertainment, and Kilburn Live have taken the show most recently on a US tour, as well as wowing audiences globally with a variety of performances on multiple seasons of Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent.
The holiday version of this production showcases five spectacular magicians including Colin Cloud (The Deductionist), Chloe Crawford (The Sorceress), Shin Lim (The Manipulator), Darcy Oake (The Grand Illusionist) and Adam Trent (The Futurist).
Oake, who rose to fame by his performance on Britain’s Got Talent, is looking forward to this holiday Broadway run. “For any artist, Broadway is the pinnacle, a dream come true. To be recognized for your craft and the work you’ve put in is incredible,” he told Resident. But for Oake, all of his shows have been rewarding, most notably the recent US tour where the show played at much more intimate venues.
No matter where he’s performing, Oake is overjoyed that he and his fellow performers have the opportunity to bring a new era of magic to excited audiences around the world. “We’re a very young ensemble. We’re bringing a fresh approach to an old school art form,” he said. “It’s a whole new generation of magic.”
While the show has a strong focus on its main performers, it also weaves in performances by Light Balance, a high-tech neon LED dance group from the Ukraine that consists of dancers, designers, programmers and choreographers.
