Volcanoes Safaris’ luxurious Bwindi Lodge in Uganda is pleased to announce the completion of its renovation and the reopening of all its guest spaces fully upgraded. The newly built Forest Spa will open in April 2018.

With dramatic views over the forest canopy and across a serene stream, Bwindi Lodge is one of Africa’s most unique properties and is the perfect place for a gorilla tracking experience in the heart of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

The upgrade of the lodge features a redesigned guest lounge and dining area, extended terrace, completely restyled guest accommodations (bandas) and an updated selection of culinary offerings.

Bwindi’s eight luxury individual bandas, each with their own view of the forest, have been upgraded with new woodland interiors in pastel neutral tones, using locally inspired soft furnishings, new rooftops and inviting hand carved four poster beds, desks and day beds. The refurbished dining room provides panoramic forest views during the day and a warm, cozy setting in the evening for dinner, where a creative blend of Ugandan and European dishes are served using freshly grown ingredients.

The newly designed terrace provides an ideal platform for guests to enjoy the view with an exotic cocktail like the Passion Fruit Mojito in hand and also offers traditional Ugandan BBQ evenings under the stars. At the award-winning Bwindi Bar informal local tapas are served in the wonderful garden overlooking the forest. Guests can even make their own “rolex” wrap. It’s the Harry’s Bar of Bwindi!

The renovated lounge boasts a brand new central fireplace with spacious seating areas and provides the perfect focal point for guests to unwind after a full day of gorilla tracking.

One of the most exciting new additions – set to open April 2018 – is The Forest Spa Humula mw’ Ishamba at Bwindi Lodge. Guests will be able to relax and unwind in the tranquil wellness space, overlooking the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and enjoy a massage surrounded by the sounds of nature. The lodge gardens provide lemongrass, tea, eucalyptus and other aromatic plants for the treatments based on forest rituals.

Adding to the experience is a personal butler service throughout each guest’s stay, who will look after every need.

Experience Bwindi Lodge with a 7-Day Kyambura and Bwindi Safari  or a 4-Day Bwindi Safari. Guests can arrive at Bwindi Lodge by scheduled or private flights from Entebbe or by helicopter from Kigali. Bwindi Lodge is also available for exclusive-use villa bookings.

About Volcanoes Safaris

Volcanoes Safaris is the leading luxury lodge company in Uganda and Rwanda. We have been at the forefront of reviving gorilla and chimpanzee tourism in the region since 1997.

Twenty years ago we were the first to set up simple camps in the areas around the gorilla parks. Today, Volcanoes Safaris is the leading luxury lodge company in Uganda and Rwanda:

  • Virunga Lodge: the Luxury Gorilla Experience in Rwanda
  • Mount Gahinga: the Batwa Culture and Hiking Lodge
  • Bwindi: the Jungle Gorilla Lodge
  • Kyambura Gorge Lodge: the Contemporary Chimpanzee and Wildlife Lodge

In 2009, The Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust (VSPT) was established, a non-profit organisation that connects Volcanoes’ Rwanda and Uganda luxury lodges to the neighbouring communities and conservation activities. The VSPT receives funding through Volcanoes Safaris, which contributes $100 from safari bookings, as well as private donations by our guests and others.

Today Volcanoes Safaris is recognised as the leader in great ape tourism. The company received the Travel + Leisure Global Vision (2012) and Condé Nast Traveler World Savers (2013) awards. In 2016 the VSPT Bwindi Bar near Bwindi Lodge won the Pure Community Engagement award for training disadvantaged youths; and Virunga Lodge was recognized as Africa’s most romantic retreat by the World Boutique Awards. In 2017 Volcanoes Safaris lodges have been ranked on Condé Nast Traveler’s list of the best Africa Resorts in their 30th annual Readers’ Choice Awards.
