Women’s Entrepreneurship Day 2018 Summit #WED2018 was celebrated at the United Nations with Founder Wendy Diamond leading a distinguished group of honorees, guests, and speakers in celebrating women in business globally. The impacting and inspirational international event was observed and live streamed in 144 countries and 110 universities worldwide. The WED grassroots movement ignites a network of  inspiring group of Change Makers, Social Entrepreneurs, Philanthropists, Major Fortune 500 C-Suite Executives, UN Senior Officials, Heads of International Organizations, Ambassadors to the UN, Civil Society Leaders, CEOs, Celebrities, and Major News Media to initiate startups, drive economic expansion, and advance communities worldwide. The goal is to collaborate and find solutions in critical areas of entrepreneurship eco-systems, education and policy creation to empower women in business to alleviate poverty.

The Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Pioneer Awards honor women of excellence in their given industry. The year’s recipients include: Fashion – Pioneer Award – Anna Sui(International Fashion Designer), Political Pioneer Award – Her Royal Highness Princess Märtha Louise of Norway, Philanthropy Pioneer Award – Shari Staglin  (CEO Staglin Family Vineyard & Co-Founder One Mind who has raised and donated over $1 BILLION for charity), Culinary Pioneer Award –Kathleen King (Founder Tate’s Bake Shop Sold to OREO giant Mondelez International for a yummy $500 million!), Financial Pioneer Award –  Eileen Murray (Co-CEO Bridgewater Associates, The world’s largest hedge fund),  Technology Pioneer Award – Shelley Zalis (Founder OTX Global Technology Consulting Firm, CEO/Founder The Female Quotient),   Beauty Pioneer Award –  Shannon Dellimore (Creative Director & Co-Founder GLAMGLOW), and Civic Pioneer Award – Mary Ann Thomson Frenk (President/Co-Founder Memnosyne Foundation & The John Philip Thompson Foundation).

 

WED sponsored 75 students from Restart Academy, The Young Women’s Leadership School in Astoria, NYU, Columbia Business School, Rutgers and Fordham. Their presence represents WED’s commitment to inspiring and uplifting the next generation of young women to become strong global leaders. This year we hosted a live auction, which generated funds to provide 1000 microloans ($200,000 raised) to benefit impoverished women, which will support and sustain the community wellbeing of women entrepreneurs around the world.

 

The closing reception was held at Gospel House, the honoree’s, speakers, and special guests  joined by others mingled, karoked, & danced to an eclectic musical playlist in this theatrical dining experience.

 

The festivities continued the following Saturday November 17th, for WED’s Second Annual “Women’s Health & Wellness Day”, celebrating the hard-working female body with a fun-filled day of fitness classes, educational talks, and experiences provided by female small business owners. Organized by chairwoman, Alessa Caridi, the day – which was hosted by LULU Lemon/HUB Seventeen and transformed into a venerable market providing massages, cryotherapy treatments, tea tastings, and essential oils and digestive health information – with PRICELESS experience with panels and fitness classes.
