Picture-Perfect Periodontist

Former White House Periodontist Dr. Nicholas Toscano has worked on the smiles of Nicole Kidman, President George W. Bush, Hillary and Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Sonja Morgan and Patrick McMullan. The Columbia University School of Dental Medicine graduate and a United States Navy veteran confides, “I also have lot of blue collar patients who come to me as well as CEOs, models and celebrities.” Toscano says, “Everyone should be able to feel confident about their teeth.” During his time in the service, Dr. Toscano was awarded three Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medals and two Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medals, one being for the life-saving treatment of a patient. “This gentleman was suffering from severe headaches and no one could figure out what was wrong with him,” remembers Toscano. “I focused on the case and did a lot of tests and found he had a tumor rapidly approaching his brain. We were then able to medevac him out of the Naval Submarine Base in Groton and save his life.”

Dr. Toscano has just moved his thriving dental practice to 116 Central Park South, giving his office a 3,000-sqaure foot upgrade. “It’s a new state-of-the-art facility and we can now do even wider ranges of surgery” he explains. Dr. Toscano helps all kinds of New Yorkers stay camera-ready, providing services from dental implants and gum lifts to teeth whitening and x-rays. “I’m a very different surgeon than most other doctors in the city,” he says. “I don’t just pull out teeth and place implants. I do a lot of tissue regeneration and save a lot of teeth.” He is hailed as a pioneer in restoring hard and soft tissue in the mouth by using stem cells and is recognized as a worldwide authority and innovator in his field. Most recently, he was named the official dentist for Dale Noelle’s One Model Management and helped supermodels like Victoria Secret’s Lisa Crabtree and Sports Illustrated’s Angela Martini get ready for Fashion Weeks from NYC to London and Paris to Milan.

Dr. Toscano stepped in to help actress Christy Mack, who was severely beaten by her boyfriend, MMA Fighter War Machine, after he broke her jaw and many of her teeth. ”I volunteered to reconstruct her mouth pro bono,” he says. “After she gets out of the hospital, I’m going to work on bringing her smile back.”

When he’s not helping patients achieve a perfect smile, Toscano travels the country speaking on periodontistry and implant surgery while also serving as co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Implant and Advanced Clinical Dentistry. Dr. Toscano has also authored a series of articles in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of the American Dental Association. “A great smile is not hard to achieve,“ he concludes. “I want to make all my patients look as beautiful as they possibly can.”
