Artist Bentley Meeker has had solo shows at the Whitney Museum, the National Arts Club and the Southampton Arts Center. “Light is the most powerful tool we have to create any feeling. My love and respect for light are two of the reasons I chose it as a medium.” Said Meeker, who has also illuminated the Temple at Burning Man three times. “For me, light has always been something to not only create effects, but also show beauty and command emotion.” Growing up between the United States, the Bahamas and Canada, Meeker was exposed to various forms of luminosity. “I remember thinking of all the ways you could play with and manipulate light when I first felt the pull to it,” remembers Meeker. “The things I’ve discovered
over the years that can be done with light have blown my mind and as I dig deeper it never stops evolving.”

Last year Meeker created The “H” in Harlem. The light installation consisted of a giant letter “H” surrounded by an oval, aluminum truss suspended from the viaduct at 125th St and 12th Ave. “I wanted this project to bring attention to a community that is eager to embrace positive social change while still celebrating its cultural heritage, diversity and strength.” said Bentley who lives in Harlem.
This March, Meeker opened an exhibition of innovative light boxes at the Core Club 66 East
55th Street. It showcases light frames that explore the space between our visibility and sensibility through the use, or absence, of spectrum in variously used light sources. Jennie Enterprise, the Founder and Chairman of the Core mused “Our ethos is one of transformation and curation, where the world’s most ambitiously innovative people collide to experience and interact with the zeitgeist. We’re thrilled to welcome Bentley to present his provocative works to our community of culturally engaged, visionary leaders.” Although the Core Club is private, the show is open to the public. Bentley concluded, “I hope people can have their relationship to light advanced by this exhibition.”
