JOY CORRIGAN: Belle du Jour

Originally from a small rural town in North Carolina, Joy Corrigan is a 22 year old supermodel on the rise.  Her natural All American beauty and enviable physique has landed her in the pages of the Sports Illustrated, Playboy, Maxim, as well as Victoria's Secret.  From the catwalks of Miami Swim to the catwalks in Paris and New York, Joy Corrigan is globetrotting the world and setting the fashion world ablaze.  But at heart, this Southern Belle remains grounded with her small town Southern values and devotes her free time to the Jade's Vine Foundation to help save and protect endangered species of plants and animals.

How did you begin your modeling/acting career?

I've always had a love for art. When I had the chance to incorporate my creativity into my career by creating stories through film and images, I jumped at the opportunity!

What do you love the most about it?

I love traveling the world and meeting new and interesting people. Most of my best friends I have met while traveling, living in Europe, other parts of America, Australia and South Africa. I love having friends from around the world and feel my outlook on life has changed for the better though experiencing their diverse cultures. Growing up in a small town, I now have a new-found appreciation for different foods, architectures, traditions, religions, and languages.

How did you come about starting your charity?

The Jade's Vine Foundation is a charity I started to help save and protect endangered species around the world. Animals and plants have always been a passion of mine, especially since I grew up on a farm in North Carolina!

Tell us why the cause is so close to your heart?

I really wanted to make a difference through my career and encouraging others to make a change has always been something I've held close to my heart. Since recently learning that many plant and animal species are endangered and close to becoming extinct, I've been even more passionate about raising my voice and helping to make a difference.

Who are you inspired by?

I'm really inspired by my grandmother, she is always my go-to person for advice on just about anything. She might not know that much about my industry, but she always gives me the best advice on everyday relationships and life in general. She tells me to always follow my heart and live my dreams to the fullest. So that's what I'm doing!

When you aren't modeling what is your personal style?

I love to dress comfortably and sporty and consider my style to be fun. I try not to take myself too seriously when it comes to fashion. Instead, I use my personal style and everyday looks as a way to express myself.

What are your favorite places to go out in the city?

Baby Grand is great for a glass of wine and Karaoke. I also love to visit Flowershop in the Lower East Side, it's a hidden gem for sure. For amazing Ramen, you'll have to try Ivan Ramen, and my favorite cheat meal is a huge slice of Artichoke pizza! During the day you can typically find me riding my bike across the Williamsburg bridge, browsing through Whole Foods or getting a coffee from one of the Blue Bottle Coffee Shops!

How do you think social media has helped your career and reaching out to fans?

Social Media has been a great way for me to showcase and market myself.  Now we have more control than ever on how we are perceived in the public eye, and for models and actresses, it gives us an opportunity to show our interests, hobbies, and passions in photos and videos! It's also a great way for me to stay in touch with my friends and family!

If there was anything you could change about the industry what would it be?

I would love to see more diversity throughout the industry. From the models we see on magazine covers to the most watched video series, all ethnicities, sizes, sexes, colors, cultures, and ages should be portrayed as beautiful. It would be the best change for our industry today!

What advice would you give to an aspiring model?

Never Give UP! Show kindness and love to the people around you.

Where are you traveling to next?

I'm traveling to Paris next week for fashion week! I am super excited because France is one of my favorite cities, especially if I'm in the mood for some fries or macaroons!

What is your fitness/ nutrition regime?

I typically eat a plant-based diet high in good fats such as avocado and nuts. I also try to avoid sugars and drink lots of water throughout the day. I always stay super active on a daily basis, so after I squeeze in a few classes during the week, I'm still getting good cardio on a regular basis by taking the stairs or walking a few extra blocks. Some of my favorite classes in the city are Rumble boxing, Shock Therapy, and F45 Training. Another secret I use is adding MCT oils to my coffee in the morning (bulletproof coffee) for added energy. Also, I try to add a Cryotherapy (House of Cryo) and Sweat (Sweat House) session a few times a week!

What would you like to do after modeling?

Right now, I'm working on my own clothing line called Naked Species! It's an eco-friendly fitness line that gives back by donating a portion of the profits to protect endangered species! So, stay tuned!

I'm also submerging myself into auditions and acting classes, so I can really sharpen my acting skills and transition into being a full-time actress. In the next 5-10 years, I will passionately be pursuing my career as a full-time model, actress, designer, philanthropist, artist and occasional chef!
