How to Rock the Best Fall Trends

Trends or your own style? You can do both! We asked a journalist and fashion consultant Violetta Malakhova how the hottest trends of the recent NYFW can complement your identity. During the past 7 years Violetta had a chance to interview the biggest industry moguls such as Alber Elbaz, Viktor&Rolf’s duo, Proenza Schouler creative directors, Jean-Claude Jitrois, DSquared twins and many other world creatives. Her authorship is featured in Forbes, L’Officiel, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan with a professional focus on Tel Aviv, Paris and New York. Using her stylistic acument she helped to create red carpet looks for famous top models Alla Kostromichova, Vlada Roslyakova, Flaviana Matata and worked for Nicki Minaj in Bea Akerlund’s team. Now it is our turn to get Violetta’s vision on the coolest fashion trends.

“When you renew your wardrobe for everyday looks I always recommend two simple rules: feel yourself and “less is more”. Trends are just vectors to follow not an axiom for everyone. For example, hot thigh-high boots would look awesome on a 6’1’’ skinny woman but not the same for a petite woman.  This season I paid attention to colors and patterns that would be suited for everyone’’.

Animal Print

“No need visit the Bronx zoo to see cheetahs, zebras and snakes — they will all be spotted on the streets of soho- will be the joke of the season.”

How to wear: Again — feel yourself. If your bargaining chip is minimalism, just use printed shoes, bags, belts and gloves with monochrome outfits. Daring fashionistas can try total looks including same-print tights or mixing prints eg. cheetah dress with snake blazer.

Note: Please support animal rights and choose faux materials and textile prints.

Neon

Electric colors have a strong association with acid raves of the 90s but the new season brings elegant and mature variations of this palette with the accent of yellow and fuchsia.

How to wear: Use colorblocks —a pink suit goes well with a blue bag and green shoes. Keep the colors clean, with no prints. Beauty tools in neon shades are also very welcome.

Note: If your skin tone is not visually compatible with this flamboyance, try to wear neon on the lower part of outfit — skirts, shorts, tights and pants.

90s Aesthetics

Grunge, a fierce hip-hop scene, street gangs, and our romantic youth. Designers do not give up on this trend for many seasons. This time the limelight falls onto denim and oversized silhouettes.

How to wear: Fearlessly. Keep using thin sunglasses, play with denim fabrics (yes, stone- and bleach-wash is back), high-waisted wide pants and big-shoulders jackets. Platform sneakers are also very good for channeling the Spice Girls era.
