When it comes to ringing in 2022, NYC has its share of rooftop hotspots to get that perfect instagram shot when the clock strikes 12. Here Resident speaks to nightlife maven David Rabin, the owner of Jimmy in Soho and The Skylark in Midtown as to what he has planned in his two stylish venues for a memorable celebration.
What makes JIMMY and The Skylark special for New Year’s Eve?
JIMMY and The Skylark are unique in their own way. JIMMY is known as the quintessential downtown NYC rooftop. It’s an intimate room with amazing views that always becomes a great party. The Skylark is the best of both worlds in that you can see the actual ball drop but are a few blocks removed from the crowds of Times Square. Both have amazing food, and cocktails from Johnny Swet, and top NYC DJs to make the night complete.
Why are rooftop venues so ideal for New Yorkers and visitors to the city who are celebrating New Year’s Eve, especially this year?
It’s such a great way to experience NYC on NYE from “above it all.” Our guests can see the city from all angles and if the weather is nice enough they can pop outside for fresh air at both venues.
How will their respective New Year’s Eve celebrations be different than in prior years?
We are planning the nights as we do every year, although of course we’ll be rigorous in checking everyone’s vaccination status. But otherwise we’re planning on very festive evenings to ring in what we all hope will be a much more pleasant 2022 than 2020 and ’21.
What is your outlook on New York City’s hospitality world in 2022?
I’m pretty bullish on it for NYC because I think most thinking New Yorkers have enthusiastically embraced vaccinations and boosters and want to be out and seeing old friends and colleagues. We’ve been so busy these last few months, but we have not yet seen any slowdown, despite the concerns regarding the variants. Hopefully NYC will stand strong and we’re moving full speed ahead.
