BACKGROUND

Since the launch of the mobile prostate cancer screening unit on April 1, 2022, the Mount Sinai Department of Urology has screened more than 1,000 men, finding 20% of these patients to have an elevated PSA. This represents an important biomarker for the diagnosis of prostate cancer—one of the most common cancers—with about one in eight American men being diagnosed during their lifetime. The American Cancer Society's estimates for prostate cancer in the United States for 2022 are about 268,490 new cases of prostate cancer, with about 34,500 deaths.
