The New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) Philanthropic Event Gala & Science Fair made headlines this year as it celebrated a triumphant evening of science and entertainment. Held on October 10 at the Jazz at Lincoln Center, renowned dignitaries and A-list celebrities, came to support the gala and raised a whopping $2.4 million to further its mission of accelerating cures through stem cell research.

An Evening to Remember with A-list Entertainment

The gala was nothing short of spectacular, with Tony Award-winning singer and actress Annaleigh Ashford, known for her iconic role in Sweeney Todd, hosting the star-studded night. Attendees were treated to soul-stirring musical performances by the multi-talented Tom Kitt, recipient of Tony, Emmy, Pulitzer Prize, and Grammy Awards, and the Grammy-nominated Broadway powerhouse Caissie Levy. The duo's renditions of "I Miss the Mountains" from Next to Normal and "Let It Go" from Frozen left an indelible mark on the audience.

Famous guests included Rob Reiner, Matt Dillon, Ian Schrager, Martha Stewart, and New York State Senator Brad Hoylman, among others.

Honoring the 2023 NYSCF Stem Cell Heroes

This year's gala paid tribute to four outstanding NYSCF Stem Cell Heroes for their unparalleled contributions to stem cell science:

  1. Kay Unger: The globally recognized designer and philanthropist, known for her unyielding commitment to the cause.
  2. Feng Zhang, PhD: Esteemed for his groundbreaking work on CRISPR gene editing, Zhang is a notable name in biotech entrepreneurship.
  3. Janet and Jerry Zucker: Celebrated patient advocates, dynamic personalities in the film industry, renowned for their writing, direction, and production expertise.

A Glimpse into the Future of Stem Cell Research

The evening's theme, 'Science Powered by Patients,' emphasized the vital role of generous cell donors driving NYSCF's research. The night was not just about raising funds, but also about raising awareness.

One of the most talked-about highlights of the evening was the immersive Science Fair. Attendees were transported into the world of NYSCF research laboratories through an interactive experience. At the Science Fair, attendees decided stem cell fate, viewed live cells, tested brainpower against AI, and controlled NYSCF robots.

The 2023 NYSCF Gala & Science Fair transcended fundraising, symbolizing our resolute dedication and advancements in stem cell research. With ample funds and the increasing awareness of stem cell science, NYSCF is ready to expedite cures and enhance global patient care.
