A New Chapter in American Glamping Arrives in Maryland
Deep Creek Lake, long revered for its natural beauty and quiet allure, is now home to one of the most innovative outdoor hospitality experiences in the Mid-Atlantic. On May 21, Bumblebee Management officially announced the opening of the newly redeveloped Bumblebee RV Park & Campground—alongside the much-anticipated debut of the Beehive Domes, Maryland’s first-ever geodesic dome glamping destination.
Nestled in the rolling landscapes of Garrett County, this project represents a sophisticated shift in outdoor accommodations, offering guests a reimagined way to enjoy nature—one that doesn’t forgo the comforts of home.
From Rugged to Refined: Glamping with Structure and Soul
At the heart of the property’s transformation are the Beehive Domes—custom-designed geodesic structures that blend sleek architectural form with luxury-focused function. Each dome is thoughtfully equipped with queen-sized beds, full kitchens, private bathrooms, and personal saunas, offering guests the ability to unwind in style after a day of hiking, paddleboarding, or simply enjoying the stillness of the forest.
What makes these domes particularly notable isn’t just their aesthetic or amenities—it’s the process behind them. Navigating Maryland’s notoriously strict building regulations, Bumblebee Management worked closely with local and state authorities to bring this vision to life. “We’ve worked closely with local and state agencies to make this possible, and the response—especially from the DMV community—has been incredibly encouraging,” said Tony Jia, CEO and Co-founder of Bumblebee Management.
From Campground to Community Investment
The newly opened domes mark the first phase of a broader vision for the Bumblebee team, headquartered in Montgomery County. Beyond the new accommodations, the redevelopment also includes expanded RV facilities, creating a seamless experience for travelers across comfort levels and lifestyle preferences.
This evolution reflects a larger trend in travel—where flexibility, sustainability, and design converge. For Victor Esch, COO of Bumblebee, the project is deeply personal. “Growing up I would go camping at least five times a year. As an adult, it is really fulfilling that we are able to attract people who otherwise would have been uninterested from rugged camping to the simplicity and tranquility of nature,” he shared.
Looking Ahead: Modular Housing and Expansion Plans
The success of the launch has already catalyzed Phase 2, which will see Bumblebee expand its offerings into modular housing solutions and consulting services for other developers and park owners. This next step underscores the company’s ambition not only to redefine the camping experience but to provide scalable, sustainable infrastructure for the outdoor hospitality sector at large.
In an era where luxury is increasingly defined by access—to nature, to flexibility, to design—the Beehive Domes and the reinvention of Bumblebee RV Park serve as a compelling model for what the future of glamping in the United States can look like.
