The hotel is part of The Leading Hotels of the World and is steeped in centuries of cultural gravitas. Once a convent and later a noble residence, Palacio de los Duques now channels its storied past into a stay that is as theatrical as it is tranquil.

The property draws direct inspiration from the works of Diego Velázquez, the iconic Seville-born painter whose masterpieces are subtly integrated throughout the hotel. This homage to Spanish art history doesn’t feel like a museum—it feels alive. One of my favorite areas was the area that pays tribute to the nearby Teatro Real. Frequented by visiting performers, this section is adorned with costumes, fans, and portraits that connect Madrid’s operatic traditions with the hotel’s theatrical sensibility.

There’s a seasonal pool, whirlpool hot tub, cocktail bar, and ample lounge seating for those golden hour snapshots or just a quiet moment above the buzz of the city.

What truly transformed my stay was the RedLevel experience, a premium tier of service that elevates your visit to something genuinely exceptional. It’s more than just access—it’s a mindset. You receive a private check-in, personalized concierge service, late check-out, and entrance to the RedLevel Lounge, which offers its own dedicated breakfast buffet, open bar, and a continuous rotation of tapas, snacks, and sweet treats.

I indulged in midday offerings that included artisanal soups, house-made dips, mixed nuts, and curated bites that wouldn’t be out of place in a five-star tasting menu. The lounge feels like a secret salon—a place for repose, refreshment, or even catching up on emails surrounded by plush velvet and old-world glamour.

My room—the Junior Suite RedLevel —was an experience in itself. Extremely spacious, the suite included a plush king-size bed, walk-in closet, a designer bathroom with the best rain shower I’ve ever experienced, and an expansive city view. Everything about the room felt tailored, from the lighting to the serene color palette of soft ochres and velvets.

During my stay, I had the chance to tour a few other rooms, including the show-stopping Presidential Penthouse Suite RedLevel . With its private meeting area, art inspired by the work of Velázquez, and sprawling terrace overlooking the city, it’s quite literally the pinnacle of Madrid’s boutique luxury offerings.

When I visited the Thai Room Wellness, I was completely transported. Unlike any spa I’ve experienced in Europe, this sanctuary draws deeply from Southeast Asian traditions. Burmese lacquerware, Chinese antiques, and Tibetan elements fill the space with sensory richness. The massages are performed by expert Thai practitioners using authentic techniques and oils—and it really does feel like you’ve stepped into another world. It’s a journey for the body and spirit—no passport required.

The Corona Royal Gallery & Garden was one of my favorite spots to unwind. During my stay, I sampled everything from tacos and croquetas to risotto, each dish elevated yet approachable. Even the breakfast buffet impressed with classic Spanish options, beautifully presented, and paired with service that was genuinely warm and attentive. Mornings here begin not with haste, but with intention.
