Capella Florence to Debut in 2027, Reimagining 800 Years of Heritage in the Heart of Tuscany
Capella to Open First European Outpost in Florence
June 16th, 2025 – Capella Hotels and Resorts is poised to make its long-anticipated European debut with Capella Florence, opening in 2027. Situated in the historic core of Florence—just steps from the Duomo and Piazza della Libertà—the 89-key property will offer a rare confluence of architectural heritage, contemporary design, and Capella’s signature philosophy of curated luxury.
More than a hotel, Capella Florence will inhabit and reawaken a storied site that has evolved over eight centuries—from sacred convents to military hospital, and even home to Baroque artist Arcangela Paladini. Its transformation is being led by Italian architectural firms RPA and De Vita & Schulze, with interiors conceived by acclaimed French design house Liaigre.
A Legacy Recast with Intention
Occupying the former convent complex along Via San Gallo, the hotel’s architecture delicately bridges past and present. The restoration honors the integrity of its ecclesiastical origins—Sant’Agata, San Clemente, and Santa Lucia di Camporeggi—while reshaping the property for contemporary relevance.
“Capella Florence represents a natural evolution of our vision, bringing the Capella experience to a city where culture, history, and artistry are deeply ingrained in everyday life.”
Cristiano Rinaldi, President of Capella Hotel Group
Rinaldi adds that the project is not about overwriting history, but engaging it. “We are honoured to collaborate with a world-renowned architect and interior designer who share our dedication to crafting spaces that respect local history while creating meaningful connections for today's luxury traveller.”
Thoughtfully Designed for Contemporary Luxury Travelers
Comprising 33 suites and 56 guestrooms, along with 10 private residences, Capella Florence offers accommodations designed to reflect both timeless Italian refinement and contemporary comfort. Several rooms will feature views across Florence’s skyline, with others drawing inward to private courtyards and cloisters. A separate Clubhouse building will house the 600-square-meter Capella Spa, complete with hydrotherapy pool, fitness centre, and wellness café.
Public and guest-only areas will be imbued with a sense of cultural depth. Two restaurants will define the dining experience—one rooted in Tuscan culinary tradition, the other offering a Japanese omakase counter—while a rooftop bar and subterranean wine vault-speakeasy round out the hotel’s layered gathering spaces. The brand’s signature Capella Living Room, a space for guests to engage with local culture and concierge storytelling, will serve as the social core of the property.
Perhaps most strikingly, the hotel will feature an indoor amphitheatre—an architectural nod to the site’s longstanding history as a place of artistic exchange. This space will host curated performances, talks, and cultural programs, bridging Florence’s past with Capella’s forward-thinking curation.
A Milestone in Capella’s Global Expansion
Florence represents a carefully chosen step in Capella’s growing presence across the globe. Known for its portfolio in Asia and the Pacific—including award-winning properties in Singapore, Bangkok, and Sydney—the brand continues its thoughtful expansion into destinations where heritage and artistry remain central to the travel experience.
Capella Florence is not a hotel that simply opens—it emerges, both as a new chapter in the brand’s global story and as a renewed layer in the city’s own evolving identity. In a location shaped by centuries of devotion, creativity, and care, Capella’s arrival marks a quiet yet significant return to the idea of hospitality as art.
