The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is buzzing with excitement this January, offering an eclectic lineup of events that will inspire, educate, and entertain visitors of all ages. From larger-than-life exhibitions to laser-lit evenings, here’s a closer look at what awaits at this cultural hub in Downtown Miami.

1. Bugs: A Tiny World with Big Wonders

Dates: Now through April 20, 2025

Step into the fascinating microcosm of insects with Bugs, the museum’s newest immersive exhibition. Created in collaboration with the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and Weta Workshop—known for their work on The Lord of the Rings—this exhibit is a feast for the senses. Marvel at detailed models, explore hands-on activities, and discover how bugs have inspired technological advancements in engineering and nanotechnology.

Adding a local flair, the exhibit features an insect collection curated in partnership with Broward College students, offering a deeper dive into South Florida’s rich biodiversity.

2. Mini-Me Science: Invincible, Invisible

Dates:

  • Wednesday, January 8 | 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

  • Sunday, January 12 | 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
    Cost: $25 per child (ages 2–5) + 1 adult, additional children $20, additional adults $10. Museum admission sold separately.

Early learners (ages 2–5) and their caregivers can discover nature’s sneakiest survival trick—camouflage! Through sensory-driven activities, kids will learn how animals blend seamlessly into their environments. Perfect for curious minds and little hands, this monthly program is designed to nurture discovery and wonder.

3. Laser Evening: '90s Edition

Date: Friday, January 10 | 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Cost: $15 adults, $12 children (4–11). Members enjoy a 20% discount.

Relive the grunge and groove of the ‘90s with a night under the dome at Frost Planetarium. Featuring hits from Nirvana, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Foo Fighters, this laser-light spectacular is a nostalgic journey for music lovers. 4. Just for Me: Anatomy Adventure

For guests with sensory sensitivities, Just for Me offers a welcoming and accessible museum experience. January’s program takes visitors on an interactive journey through the human body, exploring the nervous system and circulatory system in a calming environment with sound and lighting adjustments. 5. MUVE Volunteer Workday

Give back to Miami’s coastal habitats with MUVE. Volunteers will tackle invasive species at Virginia Key Beach North Point Park to help restore native ecosystems. Tools and materials are provided—just bring your eco-enthusiasm and a reusable water bottle.

6. nightLAB: Science Swarm

Science gets social with nightLAB, an adults-only (21+) exploration of the museum after dark. January’s Science Swarm invites guests to immerse themselves in interactive activations, community partner exhibits, and the Bugs exhibition—all while sipping cocktails and connecting with fellow science enthusiasts.
