Ka Ho Kam Redefines the Fairway: Inside the Game-Changing Vision Behind HEAD Golf
When you think of the most disruptive moves in sportswear, the conversation often centers on sneakers or tennis apparel. But in 2025, a surprising new contender is turning heads on the fairway: HEAD Golf.
For decades, HEAD has been a symbol of performance and innovation in tennis, skiing, and racquet sports. Now, with the launch of its golf apparel line, the brand brings its legacy of excellence to one of the world’s most tradition-steeped sports. The new Summer-Fall 2025 collection is a celebration of style, sustainability, and sport—where high-performance technology meets elevated design. The man steering this exciting new chapter? Ka Ho Kam, the brand’s newly appointed Creative Director of Golf.
Kam, a veteran of both fashion houses and performance labels, brings a thoughtful, design-forward approach that seeks to rewrite the rules of what golfwear can—and should—look like. Under his direction, HEAD Golf is no longer confined to clubhouse clichés. Instead, it's stepping confidently into the fashion spotlight.
Resident sat down with Ka Ho Kam to talk desert landscapes, genderless design, eco-conscious fabrics, and the evolution of a game that’s becoming younger, more diverse, and more style-aware than ever before.
Can you walk us through your design journey and how it led you to HEAD Golf?
My background is in fashion design, but I’ve always gravitated toward the world of performance apparel. There’s something compelling about clothing that’s engineered with intention—pieces that have to do something. Early in my career, I worked with luxury ready-to-wear and eventually pivoted into technical design, where utility, innovation, and storytelling converge. So when HEAD approached me with the opportunity to lead their new golf division, it felt like the perfect culmination of those two worlds. HEAD has a storied history of precision and elite performance, so the challenge of applying that DNA to a fresh category like golf was incredibly exciting.
HEAD is best known for tennis and skiing. Why golf—and why now?
Golf is having a moment. It’s becoming more lifestyle-driven, more youthful, more expressive. We’re seeing the rise of new players, younger fans, and athletes who care as much about what they wear off the course as they do on it. At HEAD, we saw a real gap in the market—a chance to bring a design sensibility that’s both elevated and performance-rooted. Golf is evolving, and we wanted to be at the forefront of that shift with a collection that speaks to modern players.
How would you describe the aesthetic of the inaugural HEAD Golf collection?
It’s minimal, sleek, and intentional. We’ve stripped away the noise to focus on form, fabric, and function. The silhouettes are clean, the tailoring is precise, and the details are purposeful. We drew a lot of inspiration from the desert golf courses of Arizona—there’s this incredible duality in the landscape: rugged yet refined, harsh yet serene. That paradox really informed our color palettes and fabric textures. We also looked to vintage Americana and Western detailing, but reinterpreted those through a modern lens—think engineered pointelle knits and jacquard stripes, not retro clichés.
What makes HEAD Golf technically different from other golf apparel on the market?
Performance is our foundation. We’re using a blend of COOLMAX® and Sorona® for moisture-wicking, UV-protective garments that regulate temperature and stretch with the body. We’ve also introduced engineered jacquards, featherweight venting zones, and power-stretch fabrics that allow a full range of motion. Every stitch, seam, and pocket has a reason to exist—our pieces are meant to feel like a second skin, allowing players to move freely and confidently, whether they’re teeing off at sunrise or heading to dinner after 18 holes.
Sustainability is a huge theme in the collection. Can you talk more about that?
Absolutely. Sustainability isn’t just a marketing angle for us—it’s built into the DNA of HEAD Golf. We use recycled yarns, bio-based dyeing techniques, and FSC-certified packaging. Our pointelle knit garments, for example, are designed to reduce yarn waste while increasing breathability and longevity. We wanted to prove that eco-conscious design doesn’t have to compromise style or performance.
How are you addressing gender inclusivity in this line?
Golfwear has traditionally been very binary—clearly split between men’s and women’s categories. But today’s athletes and consumers are looking for more fluidity. So we’ve designed several unisex pieces and focused on tailoring that flatters a range of body types. The idea is to create a wardrobe that transcends the course—clothing that feels effortless, refined, and relevant in any context.
Any standout pieces that exemplify this approach?
One of our hero items is the topography jacquard polo. It’s subtle but impactful—the pattern nods to desert terrain and is fully engineered for stretch and ventilation. Then there’s our signature tee-pocket polo, a small innovation that simplifies storing tees and balls without interrupting the silhouette. Finally, the pointelle knits—they’re breathable, refined, and surprisingly versatile. They look just as good paired with tailored trousers in the city as they do on the green.
What’s your dream course to design a capsule around?
I’d love to design a limited-edition collection inspired by Troon North in Arizona. That place is cinematic—rugged canyons, soft sand, and sweeping sunsets. It feels like golf meets outer space. There’s something sacred about playing there that I’d love to channel into apparel.
Who’s your dream celebrity to dress in HEAD Golf?
Zendaya, without a doubt. She brings such energy, sophistication, and modernity to everything she wears. After seeing her in Challengers, I was struck by how powerfully sport and style can collide. She’d be the perfect muse for HEAD Golf—elegant, disruptive, and completely contemporary.
The Future of Golfwear, Reimagined
HEAD Golf is more than a debut line—it’s a statement. It represents a shift in how we think about golf, fashion, and performance. With Ka Ho Kam guiding the design language, this isn’t just another sportswear capsule—it’s a cultural reset.
Launching this month, HEAD Golf is poised to become the go-to brand for a new generation of players who value precision, sustainability, and standout style.
