This week, the City of Miami Beach honored Renzo Rosso, owner of the Pelican Hotel & Chairman of OTB, the international fashion group which owns brands including DIESEL, Jil Sander, Maison Margiela, Marni and more, a special proclamation recognizing the 30th Anniversary of the iconic Pelican Hotel. Commissioner Laura Dominguez presented the proclamation officially declaring December 5 as Pelican Hotel Day.
During the ceremony, Commissioner Dominguez praised the Pelican Hotel’s enduring impact:
"The Pelican Hotel has been a pillar of hospitality, style, and innovation since 1994. Under Renzo Rosso’s visionary leadership, it has become a symbol of Miami Beach’s cultural significance, offering guests a distinctive experience while preserving history and evolving. Today, we honor Renzo Rosso and the Pelican Hotel for shaping Ocean Drive and creating lasting memories."
Renzo Rosso expressed his gratitude for the proclamation and reflected on the hotel’s beginnings:
"When we first started, this place (Ocean Drive) had nothing".
He emphasized his commitment to sustainability and protecting the hotel’s heritage, stating:
"Everything inside each room is vintage."
His focus remains on protecting the history of the Pelican Hotel while still evolving.
Later on that evening, to mark the hotel’s 30th anniversary milestone, Renzo Rosso & The Pelican Hotel hosted a celebration during Miami Art Week with Rosso’s family, friends, and guests to honor three decades of trailblazing style, hospitality, and innovation.
