While summertime is all cute dresses and denim shorts, fall and winter bring something different. If anything, it's your chance to dive into your style and show the world how you truly want to look. The dropping temperatures and not-so-certain conditions give you the chance to showcase a wide range of outfits and styles. But what if you've not found your style yet? Have no fear because there is always a way to unearth the perfect fall to winter style for you, at least for this year. If you are unsure how you want to dress over the coming months, take note of these tips.
You should protect your skin year-round, but with the changing temperatures, it's even more important to look after yourself. No one wants chapped lips or dry skin when the wind whips against you walking down the street. So, carrying moisturizer and hand cream everywhere solves your problems. Gloves and scarves are another way to protect your skin as they provide an extra defensive layer from cold temperatures.
You can also check out winter beauty essentials to see what lotions or potions work best for your skin. Furthermore, if you like to spend a lot of time outside (because you can handle the chill), you still need sunscreen, especially when it snows regularly.
If you feel your hair never looks the way you want it to, you know things will only get worse during the fall and winter, especially with more rain and wind. However, there are ways you can avoid a bad hair day despite your best efforts to keep your hairstyle in place throughout the day.
It is always best to pick a versatile hairstyle that works in casual environments just as much as it does in formal situations like work. Learning to slick your hair back in a ponytail will keep your hair under control. Since your hair is pulled back, you can get away with wearing a wooly hat without the risk of significant hat hair.
You may not need an excuse to go shopping, but you do need to remember you don't need to buy anything at this second. Instead, take the opportunity to consider what styles are available this season to get a better idea of what might work for you. Every fashion retail store should have their fall/winter season out by now so you can check out different coats, sweaters, and more.
If you don't want to trek downtown more than you absolutely need to, check out online vintage stores for fashion inspo to stumble across something unique that would work perfectly with the colder temperatures just around the corner.
There's no point in shopping only for a fall outfit because you'll be in winter before you know it. Therefore, it's best to buy clothes that work for both seasons and are even suitable year-round in some cases (depending on where you live).
These fleece-lined jeans provide style and comfort. They are insulated, so you can wear them without tights or other thermals and still enjoy decent mobility. Jackets and sweaters should also work in both seasons, and you can layer them if you need to, depending on how cold it is outside.
You also need to think about your feet and keeping your toes warm. Wooly socks are the perfect first step but what about going out of the house? Thick boots, such as Timberlands or Doc Martens, are great for walking around once you bed them in and offer enough support and warmth to keep your feet warm.
But what about going to the office? Depending on where you work, you may get away with Doc Martens that look more like brogues, although heavy boots may not be acceptable. You could bring two pairs of shoes to work which might help and it gives your feet the chance to breathe throughout the day if you change into sneakers at the office.
Colder months are all about embracing as much boldness as possible, especially if you're wearing a thick wool coat when you're out and about. You don't want to look like someone transported out of a Dickens novel, so the more color, the better.
You can even start with your coat. It doesn't need to be the traditional gray, brown, or black. You can find red coats, white coats, orange coats, or yellow coats. You could even find (fake) animal print coats that make a statement. Underneath, feel free to be as twee as you like, especially with so many holidays coming up such as Halloween and Thanksgiving.
You don't have to transform your wardrobe entirely. There could be at least a few key pieces in your closet that you can wear as you embrace your new style. These clothes could be a reliable pair of jeans or a sweater that reminds you of simpler times. They could also be the foundation for selecting the rest of your style.
Deciding which clothes to keep requires you to be ruthless, but it's worth it. You may need to free up closet space, so donate or sell things you won't wear again to clear the area. But you don't want to get rid of everything, so take time to determine what you feel is still you.
You might feel like you don't have enough clothes, so you buy more and more until your closet is bursting. However, you can avoid this by learning how to mix, match, and blend outfits. Often, you don't need that many clothes. If you have a versatile wardrobe, you can combine tops and pants or skirts to create a wide range of outfits for any occasion. Not only will this give you plenty more options, but it will also save you money, so you can save up to buy that one signature piece you've always had your eye on.
Although it's tempting to buy everything at once, you may end up with impulse purchases you bought just because you were there. This could create a similar issue to what you had already: your closet is too full of clothes you don't like and will never wear.
If you buy your wardrobe slowly and take more care picking clothes that align with your style, you will create a fall and winter wardrobe you love. You may even struggle to decide what to wear because everything works, and while this is still a problem, it's a great problem to have instead of feeling you have nothing to wear because you despise every item.
If you haven't discovered the magic of getting your clothes tailored, you're missing out. Sometimes, clothes don't fit perfectly, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't purchase them anyway. Tailored clothes offer a better fit that suits your style and body shape. You might even be able to wear them at various times throughout the year, making them versatile and more functional. Your tailored clothes are more comfortable and reflect who you are, and you can even learn to adjust clothes yourself to give you even more options.
Finding your style is not the easiest thing in the world, especially if you've never really had a style to call your own. Still, there's always room to learn more about what looks good on you and even experiment with some new outfits or makeovers that can make people pay attention wherever you go.
