Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Lands in Miami Beach with a Sweet Florida Debut
Miami’s dessert scene is about to get a major upgrade. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, the artisanal brand that started as a single truck in New York City and has since amassed a national following, is opening its first Florida scoop shop in Miami Beach.
On March 20, 2025, the doors of 1600 Collins Avenue will swing open, welcoming ice cream lovers to experience Van Leeuwen’s signature French-style scoops, innovative vegan flavors, and a special collaboration with Miami’s own Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop.
Bringing NYC’s Ice Cream Obsession to the Magic City
“Nearly 20 years ago, we started serving ice cream from a truck on the streets of New York City, and now we’re thrilled to bring Van Leeuwen to Florida with the opening of our Miami Beach location. The energy, hustle, and grit of Miami make its connection to New York undeniable, and its passion for great food makes it a natural fit for us. We can’t wait to start scooping and welcome everyone in for good ice cream that makes you feel good.”
Ben Van Leeuwen, co-founder and CEO
To mark the grand opening, Van Leeuwen is pulling out all the stops. $1 scoops will be available from 12 PM to 2 PM, and the first 100 customers will receive free limited-edition totes.
The Ultimate Florida-Inspired Sundae Collaboration
In a city that takes its Key Lime Pie seriously, Van Leeuwen is making sure its Miami debut has a local touch. Enter the exclusive Fireman Derek’s Key Lime Pie Sundae, a decadent take on Florida’s most famous dessert, available only at the Miami Beach location while supplies last.
“It’s an honor to partner with Van Leeuwen on this Key Lime Pie Sundae. As a Miami native, I’m excited to share this classic flavor with the world, and Van Leeuwen’s commitment to quality makes it a perfect fit.”
Derek Kaplan, owner of Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop
In addition to this limited-time offering, the Miami Beach scoop shop will introduce Van Leeuwen’s brand-new Key Lime Pie flavor, alongside a lineup of seasonal selections for spring, including:
White Chocolate Raspberry Brownie
Blue Jasmine Passionfruit Swirl
Mango Sticky Rice
A Flavor Lineup That Pushes Boundaries

From an NYC Truck to a Nationwide Ice Cream Empire
What started as a simple yellow ice cream truck in 2008 has evolved into an empire of scoop shops across the country, pints lining grocery store freezers, and viral flavors that consistently break the internet.
Van Leeuwen has never shied away from unconventional collaborations, crafting limited-edition flavors ranging from Kraft Mac & Cheese and Hidden Valley Ranch to an Espresso collaboration with singer-songwriter Sabrina Carpenter. Its Vanilla Bean was even named the best vanilla ice cream by The New York Times/Wirecutter.
With Miami Beach as its newest home, the brand is setting the stage for further South Florida expansion, promising even more scoop shops in the near future.
