Four Diamond Luxury amidst Lake Placid, NY’s Mountains and Lakes

A beautiful winter with ample snow and ice kept skiers, boarders and skaters happily occupied. Now, however, the weather has broken, and spring and summer are upon Lake Placid in New York's spectacular Adirondack Mountains.

This pristine yet massive six-million-acre park offers outdoor experiences such as hiking, biking, fishing, boating, tennis, golf, climbing, swimming and more. The Adirondack Park was created in 1892. It is equal to the entire state of Vermont, covers 1/5 of New York State, and is nearly three times the size of Yellowstone National Park.

In addition, the community hosted the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, and remains a premier destination resort, highlighted by perfect summer and fall weather appealing to travelers looking to beat the heat.

WHERE ARE WE GOING?

In the northernmost reaches of the park and the state, you will find the AAA Four Diamond Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa in Lake Placid. The property has held the coveted AAA designation for the past 38 straight years, second longest in New York. All 128 units, of which 40 are dog-friendly, face Mirror Lake and the Adirondack High Peaks making this a popular lake resort in Upstate New York.

The hotel's signature restaurant, "The View", serves breakfast and dinner and has been AAA Four Diamond rated for the past 15 consecutive years. This is the only property in the upstate region that claims Four Diamond lodging and dining.

The Inn also offers The Cottage Café, a hip lakeside pub where you may dine inside or outside on a deck and patio directly overlooking the lake.

WHAT CAN WE DO?

Lake Placid is one of the nation's great playgrounds. Whether you enjoy land, water or air, this place that locals refer to as God's Country never disappoints. For generations, adults, kids and dogs just can't get enough of the ADK, and especially Lake Placid.

There are 46 High Peaks here of varying degrees of difficulty. Some, like Cobble Lookout and Baxter Mountain, are nice, low-impact trips that can be completed in a matter of a few hours or less. Also, from the Mirror Lake Inn's front door, enjoy a leisurely walk around Mirror Lake. You'll be able to take in Main Street as part of a stroll measuring under three miles and returns you to the hotel.

Others, however, such as Mount Marcy and Algonquin, require precise planning and experience. Mount Marcy, at 5,344 feet, is the state's highest peak. It is a 17-mile hike round trip. Algonquin is a 10.2 mile out and back trek also considered challenging.

Please be prepared for any hike by carrying a change of clothing, appropriate footwear, food, water, a compass and fully-charged phone with backup power.

For the shorter hikes, man's best friend can serve as a great companion. The exercise is good for both master and pup, and when your four-legged hiker returns to one of our dog-friendly rooms, rest assured that your pet will most assuredly rest.

If you're angling to do some fishing, Mirror Lake is right outside your window, while Lake Placid lake is a one-minute drive from us. The nearby Ausable River, which runs past the ski jumping complex, is very close to the Inn and is one of the nation's great flyfishing waters. We can also connect you to local fishing guides that will introduce you to secret nooks known only to them.

You'll be happy to know that the state Department of Environmental Conservation has recently stocked New York lakes and rivers with over 1.8 million trout. Many of them are close to your room.

Swimming and boating are just a walk down to our private beach. The boats are complimentary and on a first-come, first-served basis.

A championship 18-hole golf course offering beautiful lake and mountain views is located at our sister property, the Whiteface Club and Resort, less than three miles from the Inn. We invite you to check out our golf package on mirrorlakeinn.com.

If tennis is your racket, guests have complimentary use of the court at the Inn, as well as access to the Har-Tru surfaces at the Whiteface Club and Resort. Lessons are available for all ages.

BUT I'M NOT THE MOST ACTIVE PERSON

If you prefer to remain close to your lodging, we direct you to our world-class European spa/salon/fitness center which includes an indoor pool, Adirondack sauna, jacuzzi, an extensive treatment menu and fitness room with a view. Also, the outdoor pool is heated to 82 degrees and overlooks Mirror Lake and the High Peaks.

Lake Placid is a welcoming resort for families, and the Mirror Lake Inn, family-owned since 1977, is accustomed to having youngsters stay with us. In addition to the above-mentioned activities, just take a two-minute stroll from the inn to our Main Street. Summer concerts are offered in the village park. There are ice cream shops on both sides of the park, and lots of locally-owned stores, outlets and restaurants that appeal to and serve everyone.

Finally, you might enjoy an overhead view of the Adirondacks. If so, drive to the edge of Lake Placid on Rte. 73 where our municipal airport conducts one-hour scenic flights above the mountain tops. From up there, you'll get an even better appreciation of the vastness of the Adirondacks and our six-million-acre home.

SAFETY IS THE ULTIMATE LUXURY

When the pandemic struck in 2020, the Mirror Lake Inn decided that this luxe property would be among the safest anywhere. After investing nearly $500,000 in stepped up safety protocols and staff training, a resort that always stressed cleanliness and friendliness took the health of its guests and staff to new levels.

Hospital grade, ultraviolet technology along floors and ceilings, thermal imaging, remote check-in and check-out, touch-free hand sanitizers, mask mandates, electrostatic sprayers, keyless entry via smartphone and redesigned restaurants all combined to make the Mirror Lake Inn a safe haven. And while certain federal and state mandates have recently been relaxed, the cleaning processes around our seven acres have not. In addition, hotel leadership continues to monitor new COVID developments and variants that could impact the Lake Placid area.
