Guest Post Submission Guidelines

Effective 31 July 2026 · Read before submitting · These guidelines form part of your purchase

These guidelines tell you exactly what RESIDENT accepts, what we check, what we do not check, and what happens if a submission falls outside them. Submitting an article confirms you have read and agree to everything below.

1. What your purchase includes

ItemWhat you get
ArticlesOne article, published once, on resident.com.
LinksExactly one do-follow link, to the single destination URL you supply, using the anchor text you supply.
BylineResident Contributor. This is fixed and cannot be changed. See Section 2.
PlacementThe Resource Guide section. Guest posts are not placed on the homepage and are not assigned to editorial sections.
Editorial statusGuest posts are paid placements. They are not editorial content, are not produced or fact-checked by RESIDENT's editorial team, and are not covered by RESIDENT's Editorial Policy.
DisclosureThe Resource Guide section carries a standing notice that its content is supplied by third parties and published as paid placement. Individual articles do not carry a sponsored label.
TimingPublished within 48 to 72 hours of a complete submission. Incomplete submissions do not start the clock.
Live URLReturned to the email address on your submission once published.

2. Byline policy

Every guest post publishes under Resident Contributor. We do not create author pages for guest contributors, and our publishing platform requires an author page to exist before a byline can be assigned. There is no exception to this and it is not a paid upgrade.

If attribution matters to your client, name the author inside the body of the article. That text is yours and we do not alter it.

3. The article file

Upload one file, in .doc, .docx or .pdf format. Do not send links to Google Docs, Dropbox, WeTransfer or any other hosted location. Shared links expire, get revoked, and cannot be archived, so a submission that contains only a link is treated as incomplete.

Your file must contain:

  • The full article text, final and ready to publish. We publish what you send.
  • A headline at the top of the document, matching the article title you enter on the form.
  • Between 600 and 1,500 words. Shorter articles are returned; longer articles are accepted but not padded with additional links.
  • Subheadings every few paragraphs. Long unbroken text blocks are returned for formatting.
  • Your one link, placed in the body text where you want it, with the anchor text you specified on the form.
  • Image captions and photographer credits written out, so we can match each image to its credit.

Do not send tracked changes, comments, or multiple versions in one file. Do not send the article as an image or a scan.

4. Images

Between one and three images. Every image must be one you own or are licensed to use, and every image must have a credit.

RequirementSpecification
File typesJPEG, PNG, WEBP or AVIF only. No TIFF, no PSD, no HEIC, no PDF.
Size200 KB to 500 KB each is ideal. Minimum 1,200 pixels on the long edge.
CreditEvery image needs a photographer or rights-holder credit. Articles without credits are not published.
CaptionA one-line caption for each image, supplied in your article file.
Not acceptedScreenshots taken from other publications. Images pulled from a web search. Stock images you have not licensed. Red carpet, paparazzi or event photography without documented rights. Any image with a visible watermark.

If you cannot evidence the rights to an image, do not send it. An article with no images will be returned; an article with an unlicensed image creates a liability that lands on you. See Section 9.

5. Links

One do-follow link, to one destination. Additional links found in the article are removed before publication without notice and without a discount. This includes links in image captions, author notes and footers.

The destination URL must resolve to a live, working page at the time of submission, and the anchor text must read naturally in the sentence around it.

6. Content we do not accept

The following are declined regardless of how they are written or who submits them:

  • Kratom, nicotine or vaping
  • Tokens, trading signals, forex or investment schemes
  • Adult content of any kind, including cam sites, adult subscription platforms and adult classifieds
  • Dating, matchmaking, hook-up, companionship or escort services of any kind, including introduction sites, sugar-dating and international marriage brokering
  • Payday lending, debt settlement, credit repair or essay-writing services
  • Content naming RESIDENT staff, or written to appear as RESIDENT editorial
  • Claims about a named living person that are defamatory, or unverified allegations of wrongdoing

These categories are judged by where the link leads, not by what the article discusses. We check the destination URL, the domain it belongs to, and the network of sites it operates with. An article on any topic whose link resolves to a declined category is itself declined.

Content which requires per-article approval. The following topics are considered case by case and require written approval before submission. Each approval covers the single article it was granted for. Submissions in these categories that arrive without prior approval are declined.

  • Gambling, casinos, betting, sportsbooks, lotteries or gaming affiliates
  • CBD or cannabis
  • Cryptocurrency
  • Pharmaceuticals, prescription drugs, supplements making health claims, or medical treatment advice

7. What we check, and what we do not

This is the part most submitters get wrong, so it is worth stating plainly. RESIDENT does not edit guest post content.

We checkWe do not check
That your link resolves and points where you said it does.Facts, figures, statistics or any claim you make.
That names and the headline are internally consistent within your document.Grammar, spelling, punctuation or style, including your chosen spelling variant if it is used consistently.
That the topic is one resident.com can carry.Whether your article is persuasive, well written, or good.
That every image has a credit.Whether your images are genuinely licensed. We rely on your warranty.

If something in your submission is unclear, we stop and ask you. We never guess and we never rewrite. That means an unclear submission waits until you answer, and the 48 to 72 hour clock does not run while we wait.

8. Changes after publication

Every change requested after an article is live is billable and must be paid in full before any work begins. Requests must be submitted in writing and specify the exact changes. We do not action changes described verbally or approximately.

One consequence is worth understanding before you buy: changing a name or the headline after publication forces a new URL and a redirect from the old one. That resets the page and forfeits the search value you paid for. If a name or headline is not final, do not submit yet.

9. Ownership, licensing, and removal without remedy

By submitting, you warrant that you own or hold a valid licence for every element of the submission: the article text, every image, every quotation, every logo, and any third-party material referenced. You warrant that publication will not infringe any copyright, trademark, moral right, publicity right or privacy right.

You indemnify RESIDENT Media against any claim, demand, cost, loss or legal expense arising from the publication of material you supplied.

Removal without remedy. If a rights holder makes a credible claim against any part of your submission, or if we determine the submission breached these guidelines, the article is removed immediately and permanently. Removal is not conditional on the claim being proven. No refund, no credit, no replacement article and no restoration is offered, and the fee is not returned. You remain responsible for any cost RESIDENT incurs as a result.

This is not a technicality we invoke rarely. It is the term that lets RESIDENT act fast when a photographer or brand comes forward, and it is the reason the image requirements in Section 4 are strict.

10. If a submission does not meet these guidelines

We return it to you with what needs fixing. We do not correct it for you, and the publication window restarts when the corrected version arrives. Submissions containing prohibited content under Section 6 are declined rather than returned.

Questions about a specific submission should go to the contact who issued your order. RESIDENT Media reserves the right to update these guidelines; the version in force is the one linked from the submission form on the date you submit.
