ORTZI: A Flavorful Fiesta

New York is undoubtedly a substantial culinary hub that celebrates world cuisine with the abundance of great restaurants and talented chefs. At least once in a while, we have the craving to try something new, unusual and maybe even weird for our taste buds. Have you heard about Basque country, an autonomous community in northern Spain possessing well-preserved cultural traditions and, as a matter of fact, astonishing cuisine? Influenced by the abundant Mediterranean’s abundant resources on one side and a fertile valley on the other, Basque cuisine is a beautiful mix of seafood, meat and vegetables. The renowned vineyards in Ebro Valley add a charming accent to any meal. If you are having trouble finding the best spot for a fantastic Basque place, we are happy to help.

Hidden in LUMA Hotel Times Square, Ortzi is a spacious, sleek restaurant with amazing Basque country-inspired dishes led by Chef Jose Garces and Chef de Cuisine Michael Han, who create both original and spectacular plates. Opened for three meals daily, and perfect for tapas and a few drinks, the restaurant is undoubtedly one of the most creative and exciting new Spanish openings in NYC. For a full dining experience, get one of the forty-five seats at the latest, contemporary, bright dining space built around an open kitchen. If you are craving for something more casual, land in the lobby of LUMA hotel with its first-come/first-serve bar and lounge with an upscale wood-paneled bar, offering the same menu as the dining room.

Patrons are welcome to indulge in the chic dining experience with Ortzi’s four-course traditional Basque tapas experience with exclusive wine pairings, or simply order by the menu. Either way, you won’t be disappointed. Using only fresh ingredients for their dishes, the restaurant offers a wide variety of must-sample seafood plates such as the ever-favorite roasted branzino complemented with bean stew, spiced cauliflower, hazelnut sofrito and piquillo. Start your culinary journey to Basque with Queso Mixto or Jamon Iberico and proceed with Pan con Pantacas or roasted foie gras. Don’t leave the restaurant without trying out a traditional Spanish dessert, Copa Caramel, made with milk chocolate cream, caramel foam, wine, orange zest and sea salt. Besides fantastic food, the restaurant offers an extensive beverage menu, centering around the wines and spirits of Northern Spain and Atlantic France.

See, taste, smell and hear the very essence of flavorful traditions in a creative setting with Ortzi, the Basque gem inside the urban culinary treasure of New York City.
