Making Waves in the Hamptons: Hetrick-Martin Institute Marks 25 Years of ‘School’s Out’ With Star Power and Summer Purpose

The Landmark LGBTQIA+ Youth Fundraiser Returns to the East End With a Celebrity-Studded Host Committee, Culinary Highlights From STK and Petrossian, and a Splashy Performance From the Aqualillies

On August 2nd, one of the Hamptons’ most impactful traditions returns for its silver anniversary—where advocacy meets elegance, and cocktails carry a cause. The 25th annual “School’s Out” benefit, hosted by the Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI), takes place once again in the Hamptons with renewed energy, a formidable guest list, and an unwavering commitment to uplifting LGBTQIA+ youth through the critical summer months.

HMI, the nation’s longest-running LGBTQIA+ youth organization, has served as a lifeline for young people since 1979. Its annual School’s Out fundraiser, now a signature summer affair on the East End, supports the Institute’s vital work during the summer—when schools close, and many at-risk youth are left without access to the resources, support systems, and affirming spaces they depend on throughout the academic year.

Cocktails, Community, and a Cause

This year’s event begins with cocktails from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, inviting guests into a lush summer setting filled with conversation, connection, and purpose. Attendees will then gather for the VIP ‘Taste of the Hamptons’ dinner, a curated culinary showcase featuring dishes from Petrossian, STK Steakhouse, Duryea’s, Almond, and more—a sophisticated lineup that reflects the event’s elevated yet deeply mission-driven tone.

On the entertainment front, the crowd can expect a special performance from the Aqualillies, the acclaimed synchronized swimming troupe known for blending aquatic artistry with old-Hollywood glamour. Their performance, as theatrical as it is athletic, adds a fitting sense of celebration to a night devoted to resilience and joy.

A Star-Powered Host Committee

The host committee reads like a who’s who of cultural tastemakers and philanthropic champions. Andy Cohen, Candace Bushnell, Luann de Lesseps, Rufus Wainwright, Kelly Bensimon, Darren Star, Peter Som, and Thom Filicia are among those lending their names—and their presence—to the evening. Their support underscores the powerful intersection of visibility and advocacy, reminding guests that influence is most meaningful when it’s used in service of others.

For 25 years, School’s Out has drawn some of the most prominent names in entertainment, fashion, design, and media. Over the years, the event has raised critical funds that ensure HMI’s youth have consistent access to food, healthcare, counseling, housing resources, educational support, and safe community—even when school doors are closed.

A Legacy That Continues to Grow

What began as a cocktail party has evolved into one of the most anticipated philanthropic events of the Hamptons summer calendar. Yet its core has remained constant: creating space, raising funds, and amplifying the voices of LGBTQIA+ youth who deserve opportunity, dignity, and joy.

This 25th anniversary serves as both a milestone and a reminder that while progress has been made, the work of HMI—and the support it offers during the summer months—remains as crucial as ever.
