Hetrick-Martin Institute Breaks Records with $900,000 Fundraiser at 25th Annual “School’s Out” Benefit in the Hamptons
A Milestone Moment in Sagaponack
On Saturday, August 2, the Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) celebrated a historic evening in the Hamptons, raising a record-breaking $900,000 at its 25th annual School’s Out benefit. Hosted at the striking Sagaponack estate of Christi Offutt and Soraida Bedoya, this year’s event gathered more than 600 guests in celebration of HMI’s 46-year commitment to LGBTQIA+ youth—and set a new high-water mark for the beloved summer tradition.
The benefit, which has now outpaced its own fundraising record for four consecutive years, was co-chaired by Ben Dixon and Tonia Steck, supported by HMI’s Board of Directors, Associate Board, and a dedicated committee of philanthropic tastemakers. The event spotlighted the power of community, with a roster of sponsors, artists, chefs, and advocates coming together to support HMI’s vital programs for queer and trans youth—primarily youth of color between the ages of 13 and 24.
A Guest List of Influence and Impact
The star-studded guest list reflected HMI’s far-reaching influence across fashion, media, arts, and culture. Notable attendees included Andy Cohen, Countess Luann de Lesseps, Rufus Wainwright, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Candace Bushnell, Frank DiLella, Thom Filicia, Isaac Boots, Fern Mallis, Eric Lemonides, Sydney Sadick, Peter Som, and Darren Star.
The evening unfolded under a spectacular tent designed by Anthony Taccetta Event Design, where guests enjoyed a curated Best of the Hamptons dining experience. Standout culinary partners included Petrossian Caviar, STK Steak, Almond Restaurant, and Duryea’s, which brought its signature Lobster Cobb Salad to the table.
Performance, Philanthropy, and Purpose
The program crescendoed with a live performance by pop artist Kelsie Watts, who is currently starring on Broadway in SIX. Her powerhouse vocals brought the crowd to its feet.
“Every human should have access to mental health resources, education, performing arts resources, support and professional counseling. It was an honor to perform and be part of something so special and support their mission.”

Entertainment continued into the evening with aerial performers, costumed dancers, and human flower greeters, culminating in a post-dinner celebration led by renowned DJ Lina Bradford. On the fundraising front, Nick Depner, joined onstage by Kelly Killoren Bensimon, energized the live auction, featuring luxury items such as United Airlines flights and an exclusive villa stay in Baja, California.
Leadership and Community Commitment
HMI CEO Amy Harclerode, alongside fashion designer Dennis Basso and board co-chair Ben Dixon, led the night’s special paddle raise, underscoring the urgency and impact of the evening’s mission.
“School’s Out is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when the community shows up for our youth. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we raised $900,000 to ensure queer and trans young people have the safety, affirmation, and mental health support they deserve.”

Key sponsors included Nordstrom, United, Anthony Taccetta Event Design, Diageo, Dry Farm Wines, Sober in Central Park, Dixon Advisory, and The Hub—each playing an essential role in the event’s success.
About the Hetrick-Martin Institute
Founded in 1979, HMI is the nation’s oldest LGBTQIA+ youth organization, providing direct services and critical resources to queer and trans youth across New York City. The organization’s client base is predominantly made up of youth of color, and its comprehensive programs include mental health services, educational support, and creative programming—all designed to empower and uplift.
With an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion, HMI continues to serve as a model for youth-centered nonprofits nationwide, fostering safe spaces where LGBTQIA+ young people can thrive.
The 25th edition of School’s Out proved that in the Hamptons, philanthropy and celebration can go hand in hand—especially when the cause is centered on equity, empowerment, and enduring community impact. As HMI looks toward the future, its supporters have made one thing clear: the commitment to LGBTQIA+ youth isn’t just seasonal—it’s foundational.
