Since the beginning of 2024, the online gambling industry has come under increased scrutiny for its legality. Everyone is now concerned about the question: Are online casinos harmful to society?
The founder of Ukr Game Technology, Igor Zotko, who also owns projects such as Pin-Up and Yedynyy Prostir and social initiatives, illuminates these issues. The entrepreneur's efforts primarily aim to support citizens affected by the war.
After online casinos gained legal status in 2020, the Ukrainian entertainment industry entered a new stage of development. Soon after, the Ukrainian Commission for Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL) issued a license to Igor Zotko's Pin-Up platform. The country eventually received several significant benefits:
Corporate income tax —18%;
Winnings tax —18% income tax plus 1.5% military duty;
Net profit tax —18% after payments to players;
Annual license fees for each category of activity.
In addition, the Pin-Up Foundation provides extensive support to the military and IDPs.
"The government should consider the role of gambling as a part of the economy that can generate significant profits and ensure the development of infrastructure and other industries," comments Igor Zotko.
The operation of unlicensed platforms, which account for up to 45% of the market, remains an urgent problem. These entities compete unfairly by offering tax-free bonuses.
Such illegal competitors started to campaign against the integrity and transparency of the licensed Pin-Up casino and stir up gossip about its Russian roots. KRAIL claims there are no ties between Russia and Igor Zotko and no external influence on his company.
3.5 billion UAH was transferred to the state budget by Pin-Up in 2023 alone, not forgetting direct support:
Pin-Up Foundation —153 million UAH.
After the occupation, three hundred tons of humanitarian aid and the resettlement of 100 people, including support for the territories affected by military attacks.
More than UAH 1 million for generators during rolling blackouts.
Creating safe working conditions and new jobs.
In addition, direct support was provided to the ASKOLD training center for mobilized soldiers. In cooperation with Forbes, they launched a grant program for frontline businesses.
Zotko remains committed to his company despite the constant challenges. Pin-Up Ukraine regularly supports social and governmental needs, including assistance to employees who defend the country. Zotko advocates for legislative changes to better regulate the industry and increase its economic contribution.
