Where the Tree of Balance Comes From

“The TREE of Balance" approach is a central aspect of Ms. Kovbuz’s work that she uses to simplify complex psychology science to a practical application. Based on Eric Berne’s Transactional Analysis theory, the framework represents the three ego-states as parts of a tree: Parent (roots), Adult (trunk), and Child (crown). All stages of the mapping process help assess and enhance aspects of an individual's mental state.

Many years of working with clients who felt overwhelmed or burned out pursued Valeriya Kovbuz to developed this method. She emphasizes during her workshops that “the tree is a living system” and this metaphor became the base of her method. It’s less about changing what troubles you and more about recognizing your strengths—your stability, foundation, and joy that bring you to true yourself.

Over a hundred people around the world have utilized The TREE of Balance in private coaching and group events. It can be easily adapted to create reflective guides, digital resources or integrated into self-development programs. Her international clientele serves as powerful proof of the method’s effectiveness.

Ms. Kovbuz is currently working on a book intended for both personal use and professional practice, making the method accessible to individuals, coaches, and mental health specialists.

Valeriya Kovbuz has been applying a kind yet straightforward method to help others grow emotionally and professionally, since she began her practice in 2019, Unlike other approaches that primarily focus on problems, she centers her work on helping people develop resources within and understand their real emotions. Her specialty lies in assisting coaches, therapists, business professionals or private individuals who are experiencing transitions and often overwhelmed by issues of self-worth, burnout, or pressure to achieve set goals. She integrates concepts inspired by Transactional Analysis and practical exercises, such as resource mapping and guided reflection, empowering adults to address their challenges confidently.

Since 2020, Valeriya Kovbuz has delivered international keynotes and led workshops, including at the Global Motherhood Leadership Summit 2025 at Harvard University Campus and the Annual All-Ukrainian Family Camp on Transactional Analysis for four consecutive years, including the upcoming 2025 event. During her speeches, she addresses emotional burnout, recognizes different ego-states, and highlights the importance of rest – topics that resonate with people in stressful jobs.

Research Contributions

Her academic achievements speak volumes about her influence. While pursuing her Master’s degree at the University of Derby, she studied the connection between Transactional Analysis, emotional literacy, and psychological resilience through a series of published articles. One notable work, “Integrating the Coaching Approach into Transactional Analysis: Opportunities, Limitations, and Future Directions,” published in the European Journal of Science, Innovation and Technology, explores how coaching approaches can complement the principles of Transactional Analysis. The paper outlines both the potential advantages and limitations of this integration, offering practical guidance for professionals aiming to increase their adaptability and effectiveness.

Her other work “Emotional Burnout Among Helping Professionals,” which connects psychological theory to everyday challenges, and “Artificial Intelligence as a Tool for Benefits, Limitations, and Ethical Perspectives,” were published last year in the International Journal of Engineering Technology and Research Management.

These contributions are valued by professionals and continue to shape discussions on resilience and emotional competence.

Expanding Influence

Ms. Kovbuz is recognized for the accessibility and inclusiveness of her work. Her methods are intentionally developed for use beyond clinical settings, making them suitable for diverse audiences—from organizational environments to personal contexts.  She is a graduate of The Science of Well-Being course from Yale University, adding depth to her scientifically grounded perspective on mental wellness.

She is also an active member of the International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA), North America Transactional Analysis Association (NATAA), European Association for Transactional Analysis (EATA), Ukrainian Association for Transactional Analysis (UATA), International Coach Federation South Florida (ICF SFL), and the National Psychological Association of Ukraine (NPA), and a regular speaker on international platforms and a peer reviewer for academic journals.

Additionally, she is a contributing author for Brainz Magazine, where she shares insights on emotional health, self-worth, and inner balance with international audience — themes that lie at the heart of the TREE of Balance Method.

The Road Ahead

As mental health gains greater recognition, Valeriya Kovbuz continues supporting individuals in addressing emotional challenges with empathy and insights using her talent for bringing theory and practice together. Through coaching, lecturing, and researching, Ms. Kovbuz not only assists individuals in reconnecting with their authentic selves but promotes innovative ideas on resilience in psychology.

Her upcoming projects include a forthcoming book on The TREE of Balance Method, aimed at broadening access to the approach by providing deeper understanding and actionable tools.
