Lido Theater Revives Classics with Oscar Night Cinema Series Leading to 2025 Awards

The Lido Theater, a single-screen movie theater in Newport Beach, California, has announced their Oscar Night Cinema Series, through the month of February. Showcasing past Academy Award-winning films in Newport Beach's iconic and newly restored movie landmark, the series will showcase a thoughtful lineup of past Oscar-winning films on select evenings at 7 p.m. beginning Thursday, January 30 through Friday, February 28.

The series will include titles such as Everything Everywhere All at Once (Best Picture winner, 2023), Chariots of Fire (Best Picture winner, 1982), Titanic (Best Picture winner, 1998), Braveheart (Best Picture winner, 1995) and Forrest Gump (Best Picture winner, 1994), among others. The full schedule can be seen below:

  • Friday, February 7, 2025: American Beauty

  • Tuesday, February 11, 2025: The King’s Speech

  • Friday, February 14, 2025: Titanic

  • Monday, February 17, 2025: Chariots of Fire

  • Wednesday, February 19, 2025: Braveheart

  • Friday, February 28, 2025: Forrest Gump

“There’s something magical about experiencing cinematic excellence in a theater as timeless as The Lido,” said Hollywood producer and Newport Beach native Joseph “McG” Nichol, whose company, River Jetty Restaurant Group, recently took over operation of the venue. “Our Oscar Night Cinema Series allows us to celebrate the artistry of film with the community while building excitement for this year’s Oscars and honoring The Lido’s legacy as a hub for film appreciation.”

This latest venture seamlessly blends McG’s passions, offering guests upscale fare curated by Chef Shelly Register of A Market, all while enjoying classic films in the beautifully restored theater. The venue is open daily from 7am to 2pm, with special events on select evenings, providing a unique experience in Newport Beach.
