On June 22, the island of Nevis took a decisive step onto the global stage with the official launch of the Nevis Film Commission at the Nevis Performing Arts Center (NEPAC). The evening—anchored by a screening of Hamilton’s America and a live Q&A with the film’s director, Alex Horwitz—signaled the island’s growing ambitions to become a serious player in the international entertainment industry.

Held under the auspices of the Nevis Island Administration, the launch event blended celebration and strategy. Attendees were welcomed with a cocktail reception, followed by remarks from Premier Mark Brantley and Film Commissioner Pamela Martin, who outlined the commission’s mission to support a sustainable creative economy while promoting the island as a compelling canvas for filmmakers.

“Nevis remains focused on its mission to create a unique destination for film, photo shoots, commercials, and televised events. The Film Commission now provides a local interface for all those interested in using Nevis for their next production. We invite the world to do business in Nevis.”

Honoring History Through Cinema

The evening’s featured screening of Hamilton’s America carried special significance. The island is the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, and although the documentary’s production team originally intended to film in Nevis, their 2016 research trip was canceled due to the Zika virus. During the live virtual Q&A, director Alex Horwitz reflected on the missed opportunity and expressed gratitude for the full-circle moment the event offered.

This cinematic homecoming was especially meaningful in a place where history and storytelling are deeply intertwined. The evening was further elevated by the presence of Juliette Jeffers, acclaimed actress known for her roles in Tulsa King and The Residence, as a guest in support of the launch. Attendees also had the chance to win premium giveaways, including Cape Air flights and a stay at the Mount Nevis Hotel.

Building the Foundation for a Caribbean Film Hub

The creation of the Nevis Film Commission is the result of momentum that has been building in recent years. During the pandemic, the island saw a creative surge led by partnerships with MSR Media, which catalyzed interest in Nevis as a location for full-scale productions. Since then, the island has attracted films like A Week in Paradise (distributed by Lionsgate) and Christmas in the Caribbean starring Elizabeth Hurley—both of which secured distribution on major platforms including Amazon Prime.

With its unspoiled landscapes, welcoming regulatory environment, and competitive production incentives, Nevis is positioning itself as a practical and picturesque alternative for international filmmakers seeking both authenticity and logistical ease.
