A Historic Return to Form in Europe’s Spa Capital

August 14th, 2025 – The Steigenberger Icon Europäischer Hof Baden-Baden, a name synonymous with German hospitality since its founding in 1930, has reopened following an extensive renovation led by H World Group Limited. The revitalization of this storied address marks both a preservation of legacy and a forward-looking step for the brand’s international presence.

Positioned in the heart of Baden-Baden—Europe’s most renowned spa town at the edge of the Black Forest—the hotel stands as the birthplace of the Steigenberger brand and an emblem of its enduring appeal.

General Manager Holger Flory describes it as:

“A harmonious connection of rich history and modern sophistication… where guests experience a unique symbiosis of historic grandeur, contemporary luxury and exceptional service.”

Redesign with Purpose

The transformation of the Europäischer Hof was guided by the principle of preserving its architectural integrity while introducing design elements that resonate with the expectations of today’s luxury traveler. The 126 rooms, suites, and apartments are individually designed, featuring noble materials, bespoke furnishings, and a color palette drawn from nature. This approach respects the building’s historic character while ensuring every space delivers understated luxury and comfort.

Beyond the guest rooms, the renovation reflects H World Group’s broader vision. As He Jihong, Chief Strategy Officer of H World Group and Chair of H World International, explains:

“The reopening marks a milestone that signals H World’s long-term dedication to expanding our international footprint while respecting local culture and brand identity.”

A Destination for Leisure, Wellness, and Culture

The hotel’s culinary program spans three distinct venues: Café de l’Europe, where French- and European-inspired cuisine is infused with regional character; the Auerhuhn Lounge Bar, offering an intimate speakeasy setting; and the Luiza Rooftop Terrace & Bar, where Mediterranean dishes and signature cocktails are served alongside panoramic city views.

For wellness, The Vault Spa & Suites spans 1,300 square meters over two levels. Drawing inspiration from Baden-Baden’s Roman bathing heritage, the space features saunas, a steam room, an indoor pool, fitness facilities, and private spa suites—some located within the preserved vault rooms of a historic bank. Treatments are tailored for a deeply personalized experience, uniting tradition and innovation in equal measure.

Business travelers and event hosts will find five multifunctional rooms equipped with advanced conferencing technology. These spaces, designed for high-profile meetings and receptions, are complemented by 700 square meters of curated retail, including Germany’s first Porsche Studio, where guests can explore the brand’s latest models and bespoke configurations.

A Strategic Vision for Global Hospitality

The reopening comes in the wake of H World Group’s 2021 acquisition of Deutsche Hospitality, now H World International, marking a seamless integration of a heritage European brand into a global platform.

Jihong notes that combining German heritage with H World’s operational expertise:

“Elevates Steigenberger’s presence in Europe while unlocking growth potential across regions.”

As the Steigenberger Icon Europäischer Hof embarks on this new chapter, it remains a standard-bearer for refined elegance in the heart of Baden-Baden—welcoming leisure seekers, wellness enthusiasts, and business travelers into a space where the past and present are in perfect conversation.
