Studio Pilates International Lands in Harlem: A Boutique Wellness Destination Opens in Manhattan
Studio Pilates International Opens First Manhattan Studio in Harlem
June 26, 2025 — Harlem is now home to a new kind of movement. Studio Pilates International, the globally recognized reformer Pilates brand founded in Australia, will officially open its first Manhattan location on July 12, introducing a sleek, science-based studio experience to 301 W 110th Street. Behind the launch is Carla Lewis, a former media executive turned certified Pilates instructor, whose personal journey through injury and recovery inspired a pivot toward wellness entrepreneurship.
As the first New York City studio for the brand, the Harlem location arrives at a moment of significant global growth for Studio Pilates International, which now operates 117 studios worldwide, with more than 60 additional studios in development.
A Science-Based Method Meets a Personal Mission
Lewis—whose career previously spanned leadership roles at NBCUniversal, Oxygen Media, and Participant Media—discovered Pilates as part of her healing process following a hip injury. After experiencing the limitations of conventional group classes, she found the individualized attention of reformer Pilates transformative. That discovery ultimately led her to pursue instructor certification and invest in opening a space of her own—one that would bring the quality and personal attention she valued to a broader community.
Studio Pilates Harlem aims to do exactly that: deliver structured, guided workouts in a boutique setting that is as welcoming as it is results-driven. The studio’s signature offering is a 40-minute, reformer-based workout, designed by physical therapists and built to strengthen, tone, and improve posture. With a blend of on-screen visual instruction and live expert guidance, classes are scalable for all levels—from beginners to high-performing athletes and those recovering from injury.
A Global Brand with Proven Impact
Studio Pilates International was co-founded in 2002 by Jade Winter, a former Olympic swimmer, and Tanya Winter, a licensed physical therapist. The program was developed to bridge the gap between physical therapy and fitness, emphasizing precision, alignment, and long-term results. Since then, it has become one of the fastest-growing boutique fitness franchises globally, expanding across Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States.
"This growth reflects the strong demand for our results-driven, science-based Pilates method. We're proud to support our franchisees and instructors as we expand into new markets and bring the Studio Pilates experience to more communities worldwide!"
Jade Winter, Co-Founder and CEO of Studio Pilates International
In 2024, the brand recorded over 2.2 million client visits, trained more than 4,000 new instructors, and increased network sales by 36%, totaling $52.6 million. Its latest wave of North American openings includes studios in Colorado, Minnesota, California, and now, New York.
A New Wellness Chapter for Harlem
More than just a studio, the Harlem location signals a broader investment in community-driven wellness. With Lewis at the helm, Studio Pilates Harlem is committed to building inclusive programming that welcomes clients of all backgrounds, ages, and stages—whether they’re new moms, recovering from illness, or simply seeking a consistent and intelligent fitness regimen.
Class schedules span early morning through evening, designed to accommodate busy urban lives while offering the structure and support needed for sustainable movement.
