Atelier Nomads Lands in Coral Gables: A Moroccan Design Capsule Pops Up on Miracle Mile

From Marrakesh to Miami, Design Visionary Maryam Montague and Real Estate Powerhouse Mindy McIlroy Bring Handmade Moroccan Treasures to Coral Gables in a Limited-Run Luxury Home Décor Experience

A Taste of Morocco Arrives in Miami with Atelier Nomads

Beginning June 5, a stretch of Coral Gables will take on the soul of Marrakesh as Atelier Nomads opens its doors at 348 Miracle Mile. Conceived by Maryam Montague—designer, author, hotelier, and internationally renowned curator of Moroccan design—and Mindy McIlroy, President of Terranova, the pop-up offers a finely curated collection of home furnishings and décor sourced directly from Morocco’s artisan community.

Running through July 24, Atelier Nomads is a limited-time capsule destination where small-batch craftsmanship and globally-minded interiors converge. With a range that spans $25 accessories to $12,000 hand-knotted rugs, the experience is designed to engage South Florida’s interior design community, homeowners with global tastes, and aesthetes seeking objects with story, substance, and soul.

A Curated Escape: Design with Provenance

Atelier Nomads is an immersive encounter with craftsmanship that typically requires a passport and a guide through Marrakesh’s intricate souks. Montague, who lives in Morocco and operates the design-forward Peacock Pavilions boutique hotel, has used her deep network of artisans to source the kinds of pieces tourists rarely encounter.

“Marrakesh and Morocco already have a mystical connotation to people. You can’t always hop on a plane across the ocean, so this is an opportunity for it to come to you.”

The items on offer reflect that ethos. From raffia-wrapped chairs embroidered by hand, to large-scale tribal lanterns that take weeks to create, each object has been thoughtfully selected for its ability to elevate a space without losing its sense of origin. Pottery, textiles, bespoke backgammon sets, and handblown glassware—each piece speaks to the tradition of slow design and the power of beauty with intention.

A Design Friendship, Born in the Souks

The collaboration traces its roots to a serendipitous meeting. McIlroy, whose work has helped shape Coral Gables’ retail landscape for over two decades, had long admired Montague’s design sensibility. In January 2025, she joined one of Montague’s exclusive Marrakesh shopping excursions. The experience left an indelible impression.

“I wanted to bring everything home. What stood out to me is that we don’t have anything like this in Miami.”

What began as a personal design pilgrimage quickly transformed into a professional alliance. Over five days, the duo filled a shipping container with hand-selected finds—some sourced from women’s cooperatives, others from master craftspeople whose techniques have been passed down for generations.

It was instinctive,” says Montague of their selections. Each item is meant to resonate with an American market while honoring the integrity of its maker.

“We chose Coral Gables because we think our product will connect with the community of world travelers. These are people who will appreciate the attention to detail and craftsmanship, pedigree and story behind the products.”

Mindy McIlroy, President of Terranova

The interior of the pop-up will reflect the duo’s shared aesthetic: layered textures, natural materials, and an emphasis on mood and meaning. Decorative tiles, sculptural ceramics, raffia lanterns, and large-format communal tables create a setting that invites slow browsing and tactile discovery.

Buyers will be able to meet both McIlroy and Montague in person, learn the backstory behind the pieces, and engage in conversation about the artisans who crafted them.

Atelier Nomads is not a permanent fixture. The current capsule runs through July 24, and once items sell out, the space will go dark until the next quarterly installment. Each future edition will feature fresh collections, continuing the dialogue between Moroccan design heritage and South Florida’s cosmopolitan flair.

Whether you're sourcing a one-of-a-kind gift or reimagining your home with globally minded pieces, Atelier Nomads offers a rare opportunity: to experience the spirit of Marrakesh—without leaving Miami.
