Tranquility by Design: Where Winch and Savoir Redefine the Art of Rest

Born Of British Mastery And Ocean Liner Nostalgia, The Tranquility Bed Unites Two Icons Of Bespoke Craftsmanship In A Visionary Collaboration

A Sanctuary Tailored to the Soul

At the confluence of legacy, artistry, and imagination, two British design houses—Savoir and Winch Design—have joined forces to craft something more than a bed. Tranquility, their latest collaboration, is a reverent nod to the golden age of transatlantic travel, interpreted for today’s most discerning dreamers.

“One of the words we used early on was ‘embrace.’ That became central to the concept—a bed that hugs you.”

Michael Noah, Furniture Designer & Associate at Winch Design

This is not merely a place to sleep; it’s a fully immersive sleep experience—a sculptural sanctuary that invites stillness, evokes movement, and speaks the language of personal luxury.

For Michael Noah, Furniture Designer & Associate at Winch Design, the inspiration was both intuitive and historical. Drawing from the curvature of 1930s ocean liners, Noah modernized the sleigh bed archetype, building in lines that suggest both fluidity and structure, serenity and strength.

“We spend one-third of our lives in bed. That makes it arguably the most important piece of furniture I’ve designed to date.”

Craftsmanship at Its Most Intimate Scale

Savoir, known globally for their handcrafted mattresses and heritage commitment to bedcraft, brings unmatched expertise to the collaboration. Founded in 1905 to furnish The Savoy Hotel with what was then the world’s finest bed, Savoir has preserved—and elevated—that promise for more than 120 years.

“The attention to detail that goes into every one of our collaborative projects is second to none.”

Alistair Hughes, Managing Director at Savoir Beds

Each Tranquility bed is made to order by a single artisan in Savoir’s Welsh Bedworks, a process that spans over 120 hours of human craftsmanship. Upholstered in supple Foglizzo leather, trimmed in figured anegre wood, and stitched with saddler’s precision, the bed embodies tactile beauty.

The inner sanctum includes a bespoke Savoir mattress tailored to the Tranquility design, a Savoir No. 4 pocket-spring base, and a hair and wool topper finished in the brand’s signature white Trellis ticking.

Indeed, it’s not just about looks. It’s about legacy—passed from hand to hand, fiber to fiber, commission to craftsman—a personalized journey from vision to creation.

“The spirit of this collaboration captures everything we stand for—craftsmanship, imagination, and timeless comfort.”

A Dialogue Between Disciplines

Though the brands have collaborated on custom commissions for years—especially aboard superyachts and in luxury residences—Tranquility marks the first time they’ve presented a bed as a co-branded creative product.

“We’re dream interpreters.”

Michael Noah, Furniture Designer & Associate at Winch Design

Winch Design doesn’t have a house style. That same openness guided the collaboration with Savoir, resulting in a silhouette that fits as gracefully into a modern penthouse as it does aboard a private vessel.

Even the photo shoot, staged at the Art Deco jewel of Eltham Palace, was a carefully chosen nod to the past. “It felt like the perfect setting—glamorous and quietly powerful,” says Noah.

Details That Whisper, Not Shout

Nothing in Tranquility shouts for attention—because it doesn’t need to. The reading lights, in golden bronze from Chelsom, are integrated rather than added. The custom nightstands, offered separately, are shaped in harmony with the bed’s curves, not in contrast.

Customization is central: clients can select leather finishes, trim materials, and dimensions. Prices begin at $68,605 for a US King, with coordinating nightstands at $21,885 each. The bed is available by commission in Savoir showrooms worldwide, including its flagship in Mayfair, London.

Sustainability as Heritage, Not Trend

Both brands subtly embed environmental responsibility into their practices—without sacrificing luxury.

From natural horsehair and wool to breathable cotton, the Tranquility bed eschews foams and synthetics in favor of enduring, natural materials. Even the joinery—favoring stitching over glue—hints at sustainability through design.

At a time when fast luxury has become a paradox, Tranquility reminds us of the opposite: thoughtful, slow-made luxury that’s meant to endure.

Rest as Ritual, Sleep as Statement

There’s something poetic about naming a bed Tranquility. In an age of noise—digital, visual, emotional—this is furniture as refuge. It offers a moment not just to lie down, but to return to oneself.

It also serves as a metaphor for the collaboration itself: the bed is quiet, but its impact is resonant. It is the union of craftsmanship and creativity, of utility and beauty. And it reflects what happens when two brands—one rooted in furniture design, the other in restorative sleep—meet not just in function, but in philosophy.

“Luxury isn’t about the object alone. It’s about the connection a person builds with that object.”

Michael Noah, Furniture Designer & Associate at Winch Design

In Tranquility, that meaning is handcrafted into every stitch, every line, every dream.
