April 18th, 2025 — A new chapter in Miami’s innovation story is about to unfold—not in a convention center or tech campus, but within one of the city’s most lush and unexpected venues. On May 3–4, 2025, the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will host Maker Faire Miami for the very first time, offering a compelling blend of cutting-edge technology and tropical natural beauty.
Often billed as “The Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth,” Maker Faire has long been a fixture in South Florida’s creative and scientific community. But this year’s edition takes on new life within Fairchild’s 83 acres, where the line between nature and innovation blurs in compelling and family-friendly ways.
A Garden Grounded in Innovation
Fairchild is no stranger to scientific leadership. Known globally for its pioneering efforts in plant conservation, climate-resilient agriculture, and even space farming, the garden is the only botanical institution in the world with a NASA-affiliated makerspace. Now, by welcoming Maker Faire, it invites the public deeper into that mission—turning research, engineering, and experimentation into interactive experiences.
“We’ve always believed that a botanical garden should be more than a place to observe nature, it should be a place where new ideas grow.”
Dr. Carl Lewis, Director of Fairchild
What to Expect at Maker Faire Miami 2025
This year’s Maker Faire brings more than 150 local innovators, educators, artists, and engineers together for a two-day celebration of creativity.
Attendees can expect:
Interactive tech exhibits, including robotics, 3D printing, circuitry, and eco-conscious design
Live demos and performances, from science experiments to wearable art showcases
Hands-on workshops, where guests can learn how to solder, fly drones, screen print, or build their own tech
Kid-friendly maker zones, ideal for families looking to spark early STEM curiosity
An Innovation Trail, leading visitors through Fairchild’s own groundbreaking work—like the Million Orchid Project and Growing Beyond Earth, a NASA-backed program teaching students how to grow crops for space missions
In short, it’s an opportunity to explore what it means to make, create, and imagine—in a setting that’s as green as it is groundbreaking.
Celebrating Culture, Curiosity, and Collaboration
The 2025 edition will also feature keynote appearances by leading minds in the fields of wearable technology, AI, and sustainable design. Among the highlights: Microsoft Vice President Juan Rivera and WOOJ founder Sean Kim, both bringing global insight to a hyper-local event.
By partnering with Moonlighter FabLab—the nonprofit that organizes Maker Faire Miami—Fairchild strengthens its mission to advance science literacy in meaningful, tangible ways. Moonlighter’s approach bridges grassroots ingenuity with institutional support, making this collaboration a model for civic and educational partnerships in the digital age.
