The Pinnacle of Nineties Performance: RUF CTR 2 Sport Takes Center Stage

Broad Arrow Auctions, a Hagerty (NYSE: HGTY) company, returns to the Monterey Jet Center on August 13–14 with one of its most compelling selections to date—headlined by the 1998 RUF CTR 2 Sport, a car widely regarded as the apex of RUF’s air-cooled engineering era. Estimated at $3,000,000–$3,500,000, this ultra-rare example is one of only 14 CTR 2 Sports ever produced, and one of just four equipped with all-wheel drive.

Offered with just 16,679 miles and a recent full service by RUF North America, this particular chassis—W09BC0360WPR06007—was originally commissioned by Frank Beddor, a central figure in RUF’s stateside legacy. The car was later refurbished in Germany by the RUF factory and now sports a fully reupholstered green leather interior, Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, and race-derived credentials backed by street legality. It’s the kind of duality that collectors dream of: brutal capability paired with refined usability.

RUF CTR 2 Sport: A Road-Legal Bullet with a Group C Heart

Built on the Porsche 993 chassis, the CTR 2 marked a pivotal leap from RUF’s original Yellowbird. Its 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six, inspired by the Group C Porsche 962, delivers 580 horsepower and 505 lb-ft of torque, launching the CTR 2 Sport from 0–60 mph in just 3.6 seconds and topping out near 217 mph—making it the fastest production car in the world at its debut.

Add to that a RUF-engineered six-speed manual transmission, integrated roll cage, and a bi-functional rear wing that balances form with aerodynamic function, and you have a machine designed for the tarmac yet tuned for the track. Even among RUF aficionados, the Sport designation remains a holy grail.

The CTR 2 Sport won’t be alone in its rarified air. Broad Arrow’s 2025 lineup also includes other Porsche-based marvels pushing the boundaries of design and performance:

1991 Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer DLS – “Mame Commission”

Estimate: $2.9M–$3.2M
One of just 75 DLS builds, this meticulously crafted reinterpretation features a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six developed with Williams Advanced Engineering. With 500 horsepower, a Fluid Silver finish, and Olive Green Suede interior, the “Mame Commission” exemplifies Singer’s obsessive attention to detail and modern performance through analog purity. Just 250 miles on the odometer.

2011 RUF Rt Roadster – One of One

Estimate: $900K–$1.2M
A bespoke soft-window Targa, this one-off tribute to the original 911 combines 600 horsepower from a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six with Chroma Flash Hologram Matt paint and red leather interior. Based on the Rt 12 S and built for a special client, it blends retro aesthetics with RUF’s signature innovation.

1987 Porsche 911 RUF Carrera 3.4 “Goldfinger”

Estimate: $850K–$1.1M
Commissioned in 2018, this U.S.-market Carrera was transformed into a one-off tribute to the 1974 3.0 RSR, finished in Lime Gold Metallic with a buffalo leather and Pepita Houndstooth interior. A 3.4-liter flat-six, RSR-style bodywork, integrated roll cage, and RUF CTR-spec brakes round out its performance package. Just 5,000 km since completion.
