Art/Life Introspective

Resident Staff

Born in 1964 in South Florida's Delray Beach, artist Brenda Hope Zappitell creates abstract expressionist works that are born out of intuition, yet serendipitously influenced by nature and life experiences. They are meditations on emotions and color, lines and movement, inspired by her travels, her life experiences, and her innermost feelings.

Zappitell's work is authentic because she lives it, creating it without worry or regret, while living deeply in the moment.

If Zappitell was born an artist, it wasn't until she graduated from law school and practiced the profession for five years that she fully embraced it as a career and a lifestyle. It was in the early 2000s that her work began gaining attention, but she leapt into the public eye in the past six years, with acclaimed group, dual, and solo shows in New York and other major cities.

Her paintings, she says, "emerge from the emotion I feel in the moment my brush touches a blank surface," which results in dramatic, tangible strokes that capture deep, ephemeral feelings. Her work is in both private and public collections throughout the country, including The St. Regis Hotel in New York City, The Hard Rock Hotel in Tampa, FL, The University of North Texas Business Leadership Building, and in a private collection that includes Joan Mitchell, Cleve Gray, Helen Frankenthaler, and more.

Her latest collection can be viewed at an upcoming solo exhibition at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Brenda Hope Zappitell: A Journey of Gestures will be on display July 25 through August 23, 2015.
