White Cube Celebrates the Opening of its First Permanent US Gallery in New York

Resident Staff

New York, NY – White Cube celebrated the opening of its first permanent US art gallery opening with two days of events including a private artists dinner on Friday, September 29th, and  culminating on Saturday, September 30th, 2023, with a VIP preview of the inaugural  exhibition Chopped & Screwed (October 3–28, 2023) at the gallery's new home on the  Upper East Side at 1002 Madison Avenue. Over 500 notables from the worlds of art,  music, and fashion gathered for a first look of the inaugural exhibition curated by Courtney  Willis Blair, US Senior Director, while enjoying canapes and cocktails served by  neighboring Sant Ambroeus, and followed by dinner, special musical performances, and  dancing at the Fletcher-Sinclair Mansion.

Sun Ra Arkestra

White Cube Founder Jay Jopling and US Senior Director Courtney Willis Blair welcomed guests at the gallery before making their way to the historic Fletcher-Sinclair  Mansion to continue the celebration. International art world luminaries, artists, curators,  musicians, and designers gathered in the historic Gilded Age manse, tucking into velvet  booths and private enclaves throughout. Guests feasted on hors d'oeuvres and passed  plates, raw bar stations with oysters and shrimp, and enjoyed decadent dessert towers  with cakes and fruits all provided by Acquolina, and bars serving bespoke cocktails,  sipping tequila by Casa Dragones, and champagne by Perrier Jouet.

The evening fete featured special musical performances by Kelela, who dazzled the  audience with songs from her latest album Raven, accompanied by jazz pianist and  composer Jason Moran on piano, and followed by a rousing set by the legendary Sun

Ra Arkestra. With decoration taking inspiration from old New York members clubs,  guests enjoyed an evening of glamor and celebration, which culminated in an afterparty  led by DJ Jazzy Jay and IFE RADIO where guests danced late into the night.
